Liverpool has confirmed on Tuesday the withdrawal of Dorsal 20 of all teams of the Red Club in honor of Diogo Jota, who died with his brother André Silva in a tragic car accident in Zamora. “Diogo Jota will be forever the number 20 of Liverpool,” the entity explained on its official website. “When removing this number from the team, we do it eternal and, therefore, we will never forget it. Diogo reached us in 2020, won the Dorsal 20 and took it with honor, distinction and affection,” added the Club Red.

Liverpool has heard the wishes of the vast majority of its fans, who claimed as a tribute the withdrawal of Dorsal 20 that the Portuguese striker wore, who died at age 28, during his five seasons in Anfield.

“After consulting with his wife, Rote, and his family, the club can announce that the team number will be removed in honor and memory of Diogo at all levels, including the Women's LFC and the Academy,” said Liverpool on its website. Today, Arne Slot squad players have visited the tribute area in Anfield to make the floral offering.

“As a club, we were all very aware of the feeling of our fans, and we felt exactly the same,” said Michael Edwards, FSG Football Executive Director. “For us it was vital to involve Diogo's wife, Rute, and her family in the decision and make sure they were the first to know our intention,” said the executive.
