The MI6 will be directed by a woman for the first time in the 116 years of history of the United Kingdom Foreign Intelligence Service.

Blaise Metreweli, who joined the Intelligence Agency in 1999, will become the decimoctavo chief of the organization and replace Richard Moore at the end of this year.

The designated one, who is currently responsible for technology and innovation in the service, declared himself “proud and honest” of having been chosen to direct it.

The prime minister, Keir Starmer, described the “historical” appointment in a moment “in which the work of our intelligence services has never been so vital.”
