The Incaca Cup celebrated on Thursday the beginning of its third edition in the El Ortigal corregimiento (Miranda, Cauca). For the first time in its history, this children's tournament will feature women's teams.
The first two versions of the championship brought together 1,920 minors residing in municipalities in northern Cauca and the south of Valle del Cauca. In this third edition, the tournament will host 666 boys and girls.
In total there will be 486 players in the male branch and 180 in the female. They will be organized in 37 teams, 27 of them of men and 10 of women.
The participating teams belong to communities in Guachené, Padilla, Puerto Tejada, Corinth, Florida, Miranda, Jamundí and Candelaria. They are historically marked territories by different social problems, but also for being the places where names that shine today in Colombian professional football.
“Our bet has been, from the beginning, to create safe and formative spaces where girls and boys not only play football, but also develop life skills. We believe in the power of sport to transform communities and break stereotypes,” said Angélica Quiroga, director of sustainability of Incauca.
The launch event was invited to Liliana “Lilo” Zapata, president of the historic club intimate forms and current coordinator of the National Women's Atlético, as well as Jhon Alber Ortiz, technical director of Deportivo Cali, current champion of the Women's Betplay League. Both shared messages of inclusion, teamwork and trust with young attendees.
Each of the teams that will compete in the Incauca 2025 Cup received complete uniforms for the competition. The winners, which will be known between the end of September and the beginning of October, will be awarded with sports implements and bonds.
This contest also functions as a seedbed for the departmental teams of Cauca and El Valle, in addition to the quarries of Colombian professional football clubs. The most prominent players and players also have the possibility of integrating the Incauca Fútbol Club, a training team that nurtures the talent of the region.
