Alberto Núñez Feijóo announced this morning the new structure of the Popular partyin which a national coordination area specifically dedicated to sport is incorporated for the first time. This new responsibility, framed within the Deputy Secretariat of Culture, Sports and spokesperson led by Borja Sémper, will be assumed by the senator Vicente Azpitarte (Granada, 1983).
Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Wales, Azpitarte has a long career in sports journalism and public management. He has been a press head of the Spanish basketball team between 2011 and 2012 – during the Lithuania Eurobasket (gold) and the London Olympic Games (silver) – and exercised for a decade as head of sports of the Libertad Digital Group. He has also directed and presented successful radio programs and has collaborated with media such as Onda Zero, El Mundo, TV brand or Real Madrid TV.
In addition, he has been a professor in the masters of sports journalism at the Villanueva University and the Higher School of Communication and Marketing of Granada and is author, together with José Manuel Puertas, of the book Luka Modrić: The Son of War (2016). In the institutional field, he was a delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Madrid between 2019 and 2023.
With this appointment, The Popular Party takes another step in its commitment to sport as a engine of social cohesion, equal opportunities and international projection. Under the impulse of the Deputy Secretary directed by Sémper, this new responsibility is born with the vocation of listening, accompanying and promoting sport in all its dimensions: from the base to the elite, from integration to education, from values to the institutional recognition it deserves.
