Wrestlemania is considered the “Super Bowl” of professional struggle. Under the brilliant lights of The Show of Shows, the biggest superstars compete in the most prominent fighting in the most important WWE calendar event.
From Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat to The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels and Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns, fans have witnessed some memorable classics that deserved the magnificent scenario of 'Mania.
However, in retrospect, there were some cases in which WWE scheduled fighting that had no right to be on the wrestlemania billboard. Here are five of those fighting:
#5. The Boogeyman vs. Booker T y Queen Sharmell en un Handicap Match en WrestleMania 22
2006 was one of the most successful years of Booker T as WWE superstar. The member of the Hall of Fame won the King of the Ring tournament and the World Heavyweight Championship. Despite the aforementioned success, his Wrestlemania program with The Boogeyman was terrible.
The story revolved around The Boogeyman stalking and scaring the couple of real life. In 'Mania 22, they fought in a three -minute fight, which saw Boogeyman kiss Sharmell with his mouth full of worms and cover Booker T with a chokebomb falling.
The combat was forgettable; The story felt extravagant and out of place for The Show of Shows. In addition, the decision that The Boogeyman beat the five -time WCW champion made little sense.
#4. Alberto del Rio (c) vs. Jack Swagger for the World Heavyweight World Championship in 'Mania 29
Wrestlemania 29 was one of the most disappointing editions of The Show of Shows, especially considering that it could have been much better. The negative reception can be attributed to a weak submitt, which included strange fighting such as Alberto del Rio vs. Jack Swagger.
Del Rio and Swagger fought for the World Heavyweight Championship in a fight with an insignificant hype. The former Real American had returned from a prolonged absence to win the men's elimination chamber, but fans were not interested.
Swagger's initial impulse towards the main event was a failure, and fans had accepted him as a half -letter fighter. Del Rio, on the other hand, could not connect with the audience as Babyface. As for combat itself, there was nothing special.
#3. Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose at the AT&T Stadium was a colossal disappointment
With a plethora of main stars ruled out by injuries, WrestleMania 32 was destined for failure. However, intriguing rivalries such as Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose (also known as Jon Moxley) gave fans a ray of hope, which shattered when the two stars faced each other inside the AT&T Stadium.
Given the heat generated by rivalry, a brutal war was expected in the style of Edge vs. Mick Foley in 'Mania 22. Instead, the WWE universe saw a generic fight of Street Fight without restrictions that fell flat. There were only insinuations, but not a sustained emotion in the encounter.
The former Dean Ambrose blamed Lesnar for the disaster, while Paul Heyman transferred the current AEW star. Anyway, Lesnar vs. Ambrose should never have happened in Wrestlemania 32.
He left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth, and neither of them was strengthened. In retrospect, WWE should have found alternative opponents for each star.
#2. Elias vs. King Corbin in Wrestlemania 36: Night one
Since WrestleMania became a two-night phenomenon due to the unfortunate circumstances related to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, WWE has had the additional advantage of spaceing its billboard. However, this has also led some filling fights in an attempt to put each star on the billboard.
For example, Elias and King Corbin faced randomly in an individual fight in 'Mania 36: Night one. There was no genuine background history, since the host, Rob Gronkowski, advocated a fight between them after Corbin interrupted him and Elias went to his aid during the episode of March 20 of Smackdown. The absence of the public also removed energy.
WWE was still committed to Corbin as a main heel and wanted to give the former MITB winner a fight in everyone's great scenario. However, Elias vs. Corbin was not the answer. He felt forced and unnecessary. It was always tailored to a television rivalry and should never have reached The Show of Shows.
#1. The New Day vs. The Brawling Brutes en WrestleMania 38: Noche Dos
In an attempt to include outstanding veterans such as Kofi Kingston and Sheamus in the Wrestlemania 38 billboard, WWE programmed a random team fight between The New Day and The Brawling Brutes.
The fight lasted less than two minutes. It was filling content. In WWE defense, the creative team was building towards a combat of six men by teams among all members of the respective factions.
However, the timely lesion in Big E's neck in March 2022 ruined those plans. That said, WWE unnecessarily continued with rivalry. There was no purpose for combat, and the company should have thought twice before programming the meeting.
