There will be no “renewal” of the Nemesio Camacho El Campín stadium. The original plan, which contemplated the gradual demolition of the stadium as of October, was ruled out after Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán announced a new goal: to build a completely new stadium in the same area, projected as one of the most modern sports scenarios in Latin America.

Additional, the district assured that this change will accelerate the work times, which will allow the new stadium to be delivered a year earlier than expected. “This decision is made after listening to citizens and with the aim of ensuring that football matches are not stopped during construction, which was our concern,” said Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán.
In this way, the contract that the former mayor Claudia López is signed is maintained and this change all generates is a reorganization of the spaces that the sports and cultural 'hub' has in the original designs.
New scenario
According to the district authorities, the new stadium would be completed in 2027. Its construction will not affect the sports or cultural events scheduled in the Campín, which will continue to function while the work progresses. The new scenario will also have capacity for more than 50,000 spectators.
The new scenario will be built on the eastern side of El Campín, where the old tennis courts are currently located. The proposal of the company Sncia, which leads the renewal project of the sector, includes a modern space, with cover and stands closest to the playing field. The estimated investment exceeds US $ 500 million.
After the announcement, Sencia indicated that he will present the designs of the new project in October to start as soon as possible with the preliminary development of the work.
The complete project, called El Campín Cultural and Sports Complex, also contemplates the construction of an auditorium for the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá, with capacity for 2,000 people, as well as commercial, recreation and lodging areas.
It is worth mentioning that once the new stadium has been delivered, The Nemesio Camacho El Campín will be demolished within an estimated period in no more seven months.
The concession
On December 28, 2023, three days after delivering the position already lack of other bidders, Mayor Claudia López awarded the work to the group called Cultural and Sports Complex El Campín (CDEC), which were the promoters of the private public alliance that leads the project and who for six years structured and adjusted the project.
Finally, the contract was signed in June 2024 the Mayor's Office of Carlos Fernando Galán, after the district raffled four guardianships and three popular actions, which questioned the changes made to the project in the last administration and that almost completely modified the original (based in the mayor's office of Enrique Peñalosa), which contemplated spaces dedicated 100 % to the sport.
Finally, after a contract assignment, the works were in charge of the Sencia dealer, a signature that was born from the bowels of CDEC and that make it nine companies (three Spanish and a Colombianameña), which will recover the investment in the construction and will obtain profits through the operation of the stage for 29.2 years. Although, everything is already firm, the questions, the discontent and the surveillance around this contract persist, in which the private one, at least until the year 15 of the concession, secured a large part of the profits that will stop receiving the IDRD.
