The Mosque-Catedral de Córdoba will open this Saturday at its usual time after the fire that suffered last night.
Already at dawn, the cathedral council of Córdoba announced this decision. To be able to carry it out, the monument maintenance personnel have carried out intense cleaning tasks once the prevention, fire extinguishing and rescue service (six) extinguish the fire after 00:00. The affected area will be limited according to the indications indicated by the technicians.
Although we will have to wait for the progress of the investigations to determine the exact origin of the fire, the first inquiries suggest that it could have started by a failure in a cleaning machine located between the chapel of the baptistery and the chapel of the Holy Spirit, both located in the area of Almanzor, the bishop emeritus of the temple, Demetrio Fernández, has indicated.
At the beginning of the fire, the self -protection plan has been activated and three firefighters have been approached, initially, to which more units have been added. During the work, a firefighter has been evacuated from the place after suffering a heat stroke due to extinction work.
