The Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay died in a hospital in Bogotá after being shot during a political mitin in the Colombian capital on June 7.

Several local reports advanced the news on Monday, which was later confirmed by Uribe's press team to other media, including BBC Mundo.

The state of Uribe had worsened in recent days, reversing a “critical condition” by cerebral hemorrhage.

Uribe Turbay, 39, was presidential candidate for the opposition Democratic Center.
