The “CEO” Mercedes Moné Talk about her Trajectory in AEW, Forbidden Door, Tony Khan, WWEhis career in the cine And much more. All this in a recent interview with Scott Fishman de TV Insider.
► In the words of Mercedes Moné
When you travel on these long tours with eight championship belts, I have always wondered what it is like to transport all that gold.
“My God! You have no idea how difficult it is to load with at least 80 pounds. I have not officially weighed them, but they should be serious in my hand luggage. I had to take two titles and put them in my backpack because I can no longer lift my suitcase for the plane compartment. It is a constant struggle and shame, because I am a fighter. In each airport it is very hard. The TSA always stops me and step 20 extra minutes. They get my championships, everyone looks at me, they ask me what I do. “Are you a boxer?” No! Don't you see these beautiful pink titles? Don't you recognize the TBS Championship? I am a professional fighter! It is crazy and a lot of work. But the most difficult thing was to make my entrance with all the championships around my waist. It is impossible to move the hips with 70 or 80 pounds on top ».
A good problem to have.
“I guess yes.”
What is your experience at AEW? You talk on the Internet about how much creative power you have. What is your mentality about what we see on television and how do you work with others?
«I work with whom I want to work. That's why I'm “The Ceo.” I came here because I saw women and said: “This is the place for me, there is so much passion and ambition.” We have the best female division of professional wrestling: Toni Storm, Athena, Kris Statlander, Willow … and the list continues. In the last year and a half there has been a huge change in the energy of what we show on TV. We have more time, more fighting and more deep stories. It has been great growth and being part of that has been incredible to me and for my career.
You have this great fight in Forbidden Door that looks like an international showcase, including Alex Windsor, just arrived in AEW. What do you think of this meeting?
«It will be crazy, because they are women from different countries and with different styles. I've been doing this for 15 years, traveling all over the world and training with the best in each country. I am excited to face them and, above all, show what I contribute ».
Your friend Trinity (Naomi) announced that she is pregnant at the best moment of her career. Now we see more fighters being mothers and returning. How do you receive that news and this change in the industry?
«I'm so happy because I'm going to be aunt. I love Trinity, I wouldn't be here without her. It helped me a lot at the beginning of my career. Seeing his new chapter is incredible, especially knowing how talented and unique it is. I am glad to see that now women can be mothers, continue with their work, to pay them, and make it even better. It is inspiring for many ».
MJF is in the new Happy Gilmore movie 2. We see more fighters entering the cinema and TV, like you in The Mandalorian. A list with the best fighters turned into actors came out. Where do you see yourself in the performance now?
«I just filmed a Christmas movie. On the set, several directors told me they wanted to include me in their projects. I definitely see more performance in my future. I saw that list, and should be in number 2. Don't you think? “
Do you have a dream role that you want to meet?
«I would love to be in Fast & Furious or in a shark movie where they kill me. My brother is a fan of sharks and Fast & Furious. I also love fast action, so that would be my great dream ».
You have been in AEW for a year and a half. What two things would you like the company to do to reach the next level?
«I want to see women starring a PPV. I think it's the next thing we can achieve. At this time people have seen how incredible our division is. Before they gave us small fighting. Now people ask for more because they see us as stars. We have seen Toni Storm evolve, Athena in Dynamite, and new talents such as Megan Bayne, Alex Windsor, have arrived. We are always bringing the best.
Is there anyone “under the radar” that we should follow?
“Yeah! In Rev Pro I am obsessed with Kanji. It is so talented and technical, it reminds me of Zack Sabre Jr. in female version. It has passion and hunger. If I could choose someone to sign on AEW, it would be her ».
The competition is very strong.
“No, it is not.”
Well, I mean WWE programming shows at the same time as AEW. Do you take it as a halago or as an extra pressure?
«I don't see them. They don't care. I'm “Eight Belts Moné.” I am champion in many companies. The more shows, the better. I will always be the best. That's why my name is “The Ceo.” Do what they want, AEW is dominating. If you want to see the best fight, see AEW.
Speaking of Tony Khan, how do you compare to work with him and other bosses you had?
«Tony Khan is the best boss I've had in my life. I love working with him. It is so positive to be around it, it has incredible energy. It makes you happy even before going out to the ring. Love wrestling as much as me. It is the best to work with someone who loves her just like you.
When we see your presentation on TV, perhaps people do not imagine the time and effort it implies.
«Being a professional fighter woman is another story. Being a woman of color, fix my hair, find wigs, have a nice outfit to go out, nails, eyelashes, makeup. Sometimes I have my period, sometimes I am angry, but somehow we succeed. We look like princesses, but they don't know how difficult it is to wear a corset or a huge dress. It's a lot of work, but we make it easy, right?
