The state of Israel has decided to “boycott” the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and has ordered to cancel all the preparations that companies and the government could be carrying out to participate in the March 2026 edition.

The Order has been given by the Minister of Communications, Shlomo Karhi, in response to the speech of President Pedro Sánchez, who last Monday condemned the genocide about the Palestinian people, but also to the rupture of relations with Israel that the City Council of Barcelona decided in July.

However, it should be taken into account that this decision of the Barcelona town hall included, in addition to the rupture of the twinning with Tel-Aviv, that the FIRA of Barcelona cannot host “Israel Pavilions” or arms companies. That is, regardless of the decision of Minister Karhi, this country should not have had the allowance of Mobile World Congress.

The City Council's decision, supported by the PSC, ERC and the Comuns, also included the impossibility of making public hiring with companies that appear in the list of the UN genocide, which has led Alstom to lose a millionaire contract. Nor was ships allowed to Israel to dock in the port of Barcelona, but this last point has been violated on several occasions.

Barcelona was the first Spanish institution to take these measures with the state of Israel. Since July, others have been added, until the speech last Monday of President Pedro Sánchez, who announced various measures such as an embargo on weapons and the prohibition of entering Spain to people related to the genocide.

All this is read as “a series of anti -Semitic steps and systematic support for Hamas”, as Minister Karhi said in a letter. It also indicates that the accusations of genocide are “false” and also shave the “intention to recognize the terrorist state of Palestine in the heart of Israel.”
