The president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, wants to be a candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat in the next Catalan elections planned for 2028. This is planning to formally announce this Tuesday night at a conference in Barcelona, as Catalunya Ràdio and the newspaper have advanced and has confirmed this newspaper.
Junqueras is, for now, disabled until 2031 by the sentence of 1-O and is pending the application of the amnesty law. At the conference, the party leader plans to set ERC's path for the coming months under the title A new national ambition. In December last year, Junqueras recovered the presidency of ERC after winning the internal primaries.
Junqueras's desire to attend as number one in the Catalan elections was taken for granted, but now it will be himself who reveals it, in a gesture that underlines that the non -application of the amnesty law is not only harming the expressor Carles Puigdemont, but also the ERC leader. “It is not only to explain the recipes that the party has for the country's problems but also by someone who is willing to lead it,” they explain from the Formaicon
At this Tuesday's conference, Junqueras also intends to address “uncomfortable issues,” according to those same sources, such as immigration or crime. Issues that “legitimately concern citizens” and that ERC wants to answer “from the left and the values we have always defended,” they explain.
Deputy since 2012, Junqueras was already in 2013 the candidate of the Republicans to the elections. Subsequently, in the middle of procés, he attended the 2015 elections in the joint list of Junts pel yes, which led him to Government as vice president of the Generalitat. During his passage through the prison for the events of the procés, he presented himself as a candidate of ERC in Congress elections, in 2019, and the European Parliament.
