The Complutense University will finally act as an injured party in the case opened against Begoña Gómez. The institution responds to the offer made by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado and agrees to appear “to exercise the civil action for reparation of damage,” according to a letter to which elDiario.es has had access. The Complutense justifies its decision in that the facts under investigation “could have caused economic damage and could be harmful” to its interests.
The university had twice asked the judge to allow it to act as a prosecutor if it detected that there was “economic harm.” More than a year has passed since that first request and this property damage has not been verified, but the judge has given them the opportunity to appear, as has finally happened.
The magistrate relied on a complaint from the ultra HazteOír association to open a new front against the wife of the President of the Government in relation to a computer tool linked to the chair that he co-directed at the Complutense University. The thesis of the accusations is that Begoña Gómez stole the software that was property of the educational center, although so far no evidence has been gathered to support it.
In a recent writing, the prosecutor in the case reiterated that there was no profit motive on the part of Begoña Gómez because it was a program that is neither offered on the market nor reports profits. The software was a technological application designed to help companies meet sustainability criteria, thus facilitating their access to public aid. It was paid for with funds from Indra (128,442 euros) and Google (110,000 euros).
Judge Peinado was part of the Complutense teaching staff, where he taught classes in the Criminology Degree. As reported by the Chain Beingnearly fifty students filed an internal complaint against him in which they demanded that he be removed from teaching for alleged Islamophobic comments and hindering a person with a disability.
