The Sustainable Mobility Law that Congress saved in extremis this Wednesday is one of the projects that were left pending from the previous legislature. From the first moment it was presented as a key law for the Government, not only because it is essential to face the process of decarbonization and modernization of transport, but because the receipt of almost 10,000 million euros of European funds from the Recovery Plan depends on it.

Due to this relevance, more than a dozen civil society organizations, including the CCOO and UGT unions, as well as Greenpeace or Ecologistas en Acción, asked Congress, before the vote, for consensus to move forward with this law as a measure of “responsibility to citizens” to “advance in the decarbonization of the transport-mobility sector and benefit citizens and the working class.” In the end the vote went ahead with 174 votes in favor and 170 against from PP, Vox and UPN and four abstentions from Podemos. The law will now continue its way to the Senate.
