A flat within reach of very few. Carlos Mazón will install his former president's office in a large building with views of the Esplanadein the center of Alicantewith ample space and a privileged environment.
The floor is 6ºB of number 2 of the Ingeniero Lafarga streetwhich connects the Explanada promenade with the San Fernando streetand according to neighbors of the block, the one known as Monaco buildingthe house has about 160 square meters, five bedrooms, an outdoor living room, two bathrooms, a toilet and a double entrance (one main and one for service).
The space in which Mazón will set up his office hosted the Alicante Provincial Consumer Arbitration Boardnow based on nearby Cervantes Street. Despite the move, the plaque is still present on the exterior walls of the building. The entity, which depends on the Department of Industry of the Generalitat, was the headquarters of the administrative body dedicated to resolving conflicts between consumers and companies extrajudicially.
Although the block has its entrance on Ingeniero Lafarga Street, the floor that will house the office of former president of Mazón also faces the Explanada and San Fernando Street, as is the case with the homes located on the puerta B of the building.

Those at door A, with less space because it is not on a corner (just over 100 square meters), do not have views of the entrance street, which measures just a few meters and houses a 24 hour supermarket whose clients are almost entirely tourists. This tiny sidewalk also has a Burger Kingwith entrance on the Esplanade; and with the offices of a travel agency that offer access through the emblematic promenade.
According to residents of the area, the apartment has not undergone any major works since its construction was completed in 1969, by the company. Bernal Pareja SA after the design of the famous Catalan architect Juan Guardiola Gayáwhich has various buildings in Alicante, especially between the Albufereta y San Juan Beach.

The building, which has a counseling service, stands out for its ninety murals visible from the outsidewith ceramics that reflect maritime, historical and mythological images and that give the block an important artistic value. Despite this uniqueness, the building is not included in the Alicante Protection Catalog.
Neighborhood monotony
Despite its nine floors with two floors each, to which must be added a ground floor, a mezzanine for offices (with little or no activity in the property, according to the neighbors) and a double attic, there is hardly any movement in the building. Neighbors in the area explain that in recent years more residents have gathered in the summer, with the arrival of owners from other cities.

The presence of foreigners and second residents translates into a lack of neighborhood contact. At the meetings, some neighbors explain, “hardly more than three or four people gather,” despite there being almost twenty apartments.
Mazón's new life
Once he is former president, Mazón has the right to an office, which he will set up in the Ingeniero Lafarga building; two advisors (not yet named), an official vehicle and a driver. The appointments of its collaborators will be formalized through the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana and these rights are for life.
Furthermore, they go in parallel to others that at the moment Mazón does not seem to be going to activate, such as his entry into the Legal Consultative Council as an ex officio member, which would mean a salary of 75,000 euros per year for two and a half years, the same time he has remained in the Palau, not exceeding the full term. Had he completed his entire term as president, Mazón would have been entitled to fifteen years of full salary within the Jurídic.
The first two presidents of the Generalitat, the socialist Joan Lerma (1982-1995) and the popular Eduardo Zaplana (1995-2002), have not activated the office that corresponds to them. Yes they have it Francisco Camps (2003-2011) y Alberto Fabra (2011-2015), both from the PP. The first in Plaza Sant Nicolau, in the historic center of Valencia, 300 meters from the Palau de la Generalitat; and the second in Castellón de la Plana, a town of which he was mayor.
Mazón's predecessor, the socialist, also has this office. Ximo Puig (2015-2023), in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de València.
