Cody Rhodes will defend WWE's undisputed championship against John Cena at Wrestlemania 41 on April 19 and 20. In a recent episode of a podcast, the member of the WWE Hall of Fame, Eric Bischoff, explained why the title should change hands in the event.
On March 1, Cena surprisingly attacked Rhodes and joined The Rock and rapper Travis Scott after winning the fight of the male elimination chamber. The world champion 16 times later revealed that Heel became because WWE fans are “toxic” and no longer wants to be his hero.
Bischoff said in his podcast 83 Weeks That Rhodes's Babyface personality would benefit from losing in Wrestlemania 41:
“Cody will not gain much more than he already has being held at the top, but it is so good babyface and such a good face for the company, that he will win more recovering it than keeping him. That is the best way to say it. He will get more impulse, more momentum, more opportunities to highlight in a different way if he is chasing that championship during the next 12 months instead of defending him. (1:05:48 – 1:06:24)
Cody Rhodes has maintained WWE's undisputed championship since he defeated Roman Reigns in Wrestlemania XL on April 7, 2024.
Eric Bischoff about the consequences that Cody Rhodes loses the title
At the beginning of the podcast, Eric Bischoff speculated whether John Cena could dethrone Cody Rhodes before losing Wwe's undisputed championship against the rock in Summerslam.
If that happens, the former WCW president thinks that Rhodes could pursue the title again after losing in Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas.
“I think that would be great,” said Bischoff. “You have next year reserved. You haven't even arrived yet. You haven't even got on a plane to go to Vegas and your next year is already scheduled. It could be. Then, in that stage, would you see John getting the belt? Yes, I would see it. It would be interesting. It would be good for Cody.” (1:05:12 – 1:05:33)
Bischoff also explained why the logic behind the first heel of dinner in two decades was “weak.”
