A wave of WWE releases has left fans wondering the reasons behind each recent exit. The former main writer Vince Russo was especially dismayed when he learned that a particularly experienced personality was also fired.
The personality that is discussed is none other than Paul Ellering. It was one of the most amazing names released from the company this year, along with the duo it handled, The Authors of Pain. Given his distinguished career in professional wrestling, the decision made many by surprise.
Talking about Paul Ellering in The Wrestling OutlawsVince Russo said:
“A very, very intelligent guy, but again, Chris, it's like, I don't understand why they would bring it if they were not going to do anything with him. I mean, he did nothing. Literally he only stayed there and he did absolutely anything, what I don't understand at all. You have a guy like Paul Ellering who has been for so long as he with the knowledge he has, and then you bring it and do not do anything with him? (4:16 onwards)

According to Bill Apter, Paul Ellering should have been scheduled to drive the War Raiders instead of being fired.
Speaking in an episode of SmackTalkthe veteran journalist said:
“I think the WWE pairs champions, the War Raiders, would have been very well served by having a price in their corner. He is the person who, as you know, took the Road Warriors to prominence. It was such an important part of that, and I mentioned my contacts in Wwe, I said man, I would have been so great with the War Raiders. So yes, I leave. (2:50 onwards)
