The February 21 episode by WWE SmackDown The Rock was present for a couple of good reasons. The Boss announced that Wrestlemania 42 will be held in New Orleans. Then he called Cody Rhodes to Ring for a very intense segment.
The segment between The Rock and Cody Rhodes ended with The Great One saying that he wants Cody to be his champion. In essence, he wants Cody's soul. This was a fairly large turn in the plot.
During the press conference after WWE SmackDown this week, The Rock addressed the idea of not needing a fight against Cody Rhodes in Wrestlemania 41. He said it is his characters, so a fight does not need to be part of the panorama.
“In the world of professional wrestling, as everyone knows, everything will culminate in a fight. Whatever happens, it will end in the ring. What I really love about this strange character of the final boss is that it is like this unicorn white whale, that the final boss and Cody Rhodes is not the title of the WWE, it is not a fight, it is not about bleeding or anything that is part of our world. A fight is a very special place to be, just think about it.
The Rock awaits an answer from Cody Rhodes by Elimination Chamber. We will have to wait to see what The American Nightmare says, but this could change the course of the creative direction on the way to Wrestlemania 41.
WWE has many things in its favor and The Rock is very involved in all this as a member of the Board of Directors. Now, we know that a collision in Wrestlemania between The Rock and Cody Rhodes is not really necessary for creative intention to be clear.
