Last program of the regular season in Singular female. To put the gold brooch we invite radio studies to Yolanda Cerezocreator of the project Mountains of life for women in active cancer or recovery treatment and who intends to integrate them into an environment such as nature in order to “create community”. He accompanied us too Emilio ContrerasDeputy Director and Digital Brand and Active Member of the Project.

Mountains of life'It is a project created by women for women with cancer, but there are also men like Pepe Gimeno and Emilio Medina, who organize routes. Is A different way of facing the disease And it is intended to be a tool to connect with people eager to live through the mountain. He was born in January 2024 and, a year later there are more than 200 people who have joined almost twenty routes that travel different points in Spain. The starting point was the PELLAYO LIFE CHALLENGE who joined in Patagonia in 2023 to 5 cancer survivors: Yolanda, Kika, Sonia, Laura and Ana.

It was Yolanda who had the idea of creating a project with them to continue an experience that was unique. “When we returned from Patagonia, many asked us: and now, what. That question is always there and also the feeling that The mountain had been an essential part in our recovery And that he had contributed so much, not only the 5 women who went to Patagonia, but the 18 finalists of that year. We all continue to maintain a very strong union and all that could not end. I felt that I had to do something to be able to share this happiness that the mountain gives you With other women who were at that time crossing the path of cancer, which is a rather difficult path and in which sometimes you can feel very alone. It causes a lot of anxiety, a lot of feeling of instability. ”

You realize how little we are, but also of the things so great that can be done, even during the disease

Yolanda Cerezo, founder of 'Mountains of Life'

In the mountain many new sensations are discovered including that of being very close to the sky, which offers peace and serenity that we do not feel at ground level. “Our outings They are usually routes of 10 kilometers, 500 meters of unevenness. They cannot be very difficult or very demanding because people come in treatment. But in one of our first exits, Angels came, who is a very mountain person to whom the cancer had stolen that. She had locked himself in that anxiety, in that uncertainty and in the end she was encouraged to climb through another friend of the challenge. And it was overcome to reach that summit that, maybe, can be considered modest, but at that time it was nothing modest. Was to say: I'm alive. There were tears, hugs and a lot of emotion, because you get something that makes you feel very connected to nature. You realize how little we are, but also of the things so great that can be done, even during the disease“.

With 'Mountains of life' these women intend to demonstrate that life can follow after diagnosis. “At the time of diagnosis the duel begins“However, it is necessary to manage that duel. And nature can help.” And what we do know is that exercise in nature has many positive things to be able to cope with all the treatments you have during cancer. It makes you feel stronger because it gives you a chute of energy, hormonal, physically and emotionally. We learn at each output. “

Mountains of life'It is proof that sport can be a powerful therapeutic tool. “It is increasingly clear that sport serves to better cope with treatments and to avoid the loss of muscle mass that is a brutal side effect during cancer treatment. And it also helps the hormonal system because it generates dopamine, serotonin, endorphins …”.

Emilio Contreras He has participated in any of these outputs. “You understand very well that something like mountains of life makes sense. You know new stories. Other realities that also put you on your site. It is very enriching and I also think it makes you better“.

But there is nothing wrong with complaining. “As Kika always says, she is another of the companions who came to Patagonia: You have to embrace all emotions“.

Yolanda Cerezo maintains that “You don't know the strength you have inside until you start to deploy because you need it. And it is also a period of your life in which you are going to put almost all your energy at the service of life, because you want to continue living, because you realize that you love life a lot. The disease helps you relativize some things and to change certain ideas you had. “He also warned that” not every day you will be able to do sports. You will spend many days lying on a sofa. That is true, you will not be able to get up. But you will have good days and those good days, well used, come on, they will serve your body a lot. “

Yolanda knows well what she's talking about because she has always practiced sports. He has run long distance races and even being marathon, he knew that not every day could go out to train. But I could go out every day that he would meet strength. “I had angered my body and then already made the peace Because it allowed me to go for a walk or run a little through the field. And from that moment on, the recovery curve, at least in encouragement, was up, at least, until it reached the next cycle. ”

Yolanda Cerezo He used his marathon experience to manage his treatment. “I thought it was like a long distance race and I knew thatas in the marathon, At some point the wall would arrive. Participating in resistance tests, mentally, helped me. “

Sport as therapy. That is why the creation of 'Mountains of Life' arose. “You have to try to leave everything that can be Considering that all of us in this project have our work and we do it voluntarily. We must coordinate the times we have. “

They are programming a monthly departure through the Sierra de Guadarrama, which is where the main focus of participants is. “But we will also be in Gredos. In October we will surely repeat an exit to Cantabria and we will do some a bit special things. But the goal is that the interest does not decline. We maintain this routine of a monthly exit because The goal is to create a habit“.

The outputs are organized according to the physical state of each group member. “Our philosophy is: Let's go to the last rhythm and we want to climb allwith which, if we go more slowly, nothing happens. “

Cancer changes you but the mountain also changes

Like the day Ana climbed with them. He was in full treatment and cost him a lot to reach the summit. But that team spirit and carry it in volandas, was the key to get it. “When we took that photo above, with that emotion, We knew that with the spirit of these women even in the most gray days you can end up touching the sky“.

Yolanda Cerezo It encourages women who are going through a situation similar to their own that join 'mountains of life' To launch something that will help them recover their life. “The summit is never above the mountain but in the base camp, because you have to return. And then you reach the base camp and you find it a little changed, because you have changed a lot. Cancer changes you but the mountain also changes“.
