The Junior of Barranquilla made official this Friday the incorporation of Uruguayan Mauro Silveira, who becomes the new owner of the shark's arch and will assume the task of replacing his compatriot Santiago Mele, who left for Mexican football.

Silveira, 25, arrives from Montevideo Wanderers, a club in which he developed his entire career since he debuted as a professional in 2018. In the first half of 2025 he played 22 games with the team of the Uruguayan capital and registered 9 undefeated fences.

His performance has allowed him to be on the radar of the Uruguay team. The Celeste coach, Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, quoted him to a couple of friendlies last year. However, in none of those matches he saw minutes with his national team.

A junior, Silveira will have the difficult task of happening to Santiago Melewho left a pleasant memory in Barranquilla after being a fundamental piece in obtaining the Betplay Liga Clausura Tournament in 2024. He will continue his career at the Monterrey of Mexico.

“Reflexes, claw and charrúa heart to defend our arch”, were the words with which the Atlantic club announced the arrival of Silveira. The player is already in Barranquilla and will be available to coach Alfredo Arias, also Uruguayan, who assumed the reins of the team this week.

Junior will continue in the next few days in search of reinforcements that allow him to fight in the second semester of the Betplay League. In the first half of 2025, under the direction of the Venezuelan César Farías, they had an outstanding performance in all against all, but in the home runs they suffered an early elimination.
