The status of Malakai Black with AEW continues to generate debate after its recent absence of AEW programming and the announcement of an independent appearance.

Now, a new Fightful Select report adds firewood to the fire, stating: “Malakai Black is not expected to return to AEW.”

This update comes shortly after Black was announced for the Havoc & Haze 9 event of Championship Wrestling Coastal (CCW) on January 11, 2025, where he will face Orion. While CCW referred to him as “a star of All Elite Wrestling,” Fightful Select's report seems to indicate that Black's chapter in AEW may already be closed.

Early today, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio He also mentioned the rumors behind the scenes that Black had already separated from AEW.

“The rumor behind the scenes is that it has left. I did not confirm it, but I will say this, they did not denied it. They basically ignored it,” said Meltzer.

The state of Black contract with AEW is still uncertain. Tony Khan previously confirmed that Black had a contract until 2027, with options for years after 2025. However, neither Black nor AEW have publicly approached rumors, which leaves fans in Limbo.

Malakai Black's fight in Havoc & Haze 9 could mean a new stage in his career, whether it is a temporary exit from the National Attention Center or a prelude to his next step. With Fightful's latest report, speculation about what the leader of House of Black is probable.
