The amount of premature deaths in wrestling is one of the most difficult things to accept for sports fans they love. It could be said that there was no larger loss during the 2000s than Eddie Guerrero, who died of heart failure in 2005 while he was an active member of the WWE squad.

Taking into account how popular it was among fans and colleagues equally, Guerrero's death is still one of the most tragic moments in a sport that was already full of them. Speaking to “No Contest Wrestling,” Dominik Mysterio said that Guerrero's death was the first time the wrestling broke his heart.

“I was very young at that time,” Mysterio began. “I don't remember having shown emotions when I was a child, unless it hurt physically … I always kept a secret. So I remember when we were watching at home when Eddie had died, and the video pack that passed with the song Three Doors Down, and I remember crying when I was a child when I saw him. Remembering him, and what he had done with me, and everything we had spent and that angle, you know? Wrestling, because I knew I wouldn't see him again. ”

Mysterio's connection with Guerrero dates back long before Mysterio climbed into the ring. Dominik, 8, was a central figure in the infamous story of 2005 that involved Guerrero, his father Rey and the question of the true ancestry of Dominik. Purely fictitious history created a unique link between the two, which, according to Mysterio, made the loss even more personal.

“Now I can appreciate your work much more,” Mysterio added. “Because I am living it, trying to honor him, and simply seeing his fighting and seeing how good it was. It makes me appreciate much more the time I could spend with him.”
