Eight months after his last fight in AEW, Ricky Starks still does not have a definitive answer of why they keep him out of television.
Starks, which was once one of AEW's main stars, has not competed for the promotion since the end of March and Ah adds that he has no idea why. In an appearance in Insight with Chris Van Vliet that was published this week, Starks reiterated that it is still under contract with AEW and is not injured. The experience has been a “mental mess” for Starks, who is at the best moment of his career but has had to stay at home.
“I've been at home, I've been healthy. I have never injured myself. I had a hurt. “So that happened and then I stayed at home. And that's how it has been. I've only been at home. It's a bit … it's crazy because I'm at my best moment and stinks when you're in such a strong moment, surfing the wave and working and doing things, and then being at home for so long, it's like, 'wow.' Unbalance it, you know?
“I am not destined to stay at home. I am not destined to be a homely person. At this current stage of my life, I am not destined to stay at home and not do what I have been striving to do for the past 13 years.”
Starks, 34, said he has theories about why AEW does not use it, but he will not express them because he does not know with certainty.
“I could have a thousand theories about what is really happening. The fact is that, if I don't have a definitive answer, I can't invent an answer for people and simply assume,” said Starks. “Do you know what I say? Would I love to know the exact reason? Sure. Do I have speculation about why? Absolutely. But that does nothing; talking about things about which I speculate does nothing for the situation. So I think it's just a matter of … stinks. It has been a very cold day here in Austin. It has been a very cold day. It may have been cold during the last nine months, I am not sure. I'm ready to keep heat. ”
We have seen Starks make some independent appearance during their absence in AEW, including An appearance at an event of Game Changer Wrestling Last Saturday. Then he was behind the stage at the AEW Full Gear PPV on Saturday night. Starks vs. Matt Cardona is scheduled for a GCW program on December 14. Starks also has a reserve for House of Glory on January 17.
Starks told Van Vliet that he has been exercising and keeping fit. The support he has received from fans has been “incredible” already Starks loves that people still worry about him.
Van Vliet asked Starks if he feels he is being punished by AEW.
“I don't believe that. I don't think it's going through my mind to think: 'They are punishing you.' Because it wouldn't help me think like that, right?” Stark replied. “I would depress me and get angry. That would not help me.”
The reason for the absence of Starks in AEW is still unconfirmed, but most fans have focused on the belief that it will eventually end in WWE. Starks is a good friend of the WWE Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill stars, who left AEW to join their current promotion.
Starks was at WWE Royal Rumble 2023 and Wrestlemania 40 supporting his friends. He told Van Vliet that he sees no problem he attends those shows. Starks said he is a wrestling fan and that he wanted to be there for the people who care.
AEW signed Starks in 2020 after his debut in the promotion. He is a former champion in AEW couples and FTW champion.
