Gunther has been a dominant force in WWE's main roster for almost two and a half years. However, the wrestling veteran Vinceo Russo believes that the company's decision to lose against a current RAW star harmed his character.
The general ring held the intercontinental championship for 666 days, becoming the intercontinental champion with more reign time in history. However, he lost the title against Sami Zayn in Wrestlemania 40 after being defeated for the first time since he joined the main roster. Although Gunther then won the World Heavyweight Championship, Russo said that his defeat against Zayn damaged his character.
Speaking in your podcast The BrandWWE's main writer revealed that he hated the company's creative decision to make the ring general lose against Bloodline's OG member:
“I hated Gunther's defeat against Sami Zayn, man. I really did. And I think he harmed him,” he said. (From 22:23 to 22:30)

Gunther has held the World Heavyweight Championship from Summerslam 2024. Meanwhile, John Cena returned last Monday to reveal that he will compete in the Royal Rumble Male 2025 in the hope of obtaining an opportunity for the World Championship in WrestleMania.
Speaking in your podcast Cheap HeatWWE Analyst Peter Rosenberg suggested that Cena should dethrone the General of the Ring if the Cenation leader challenges him:
“If the first thing you are going to do is have a great rivalry with Gunther, I don't think I should lose in his first attempt. I think that would kill his moment,” he said.
It would be interesting to see how much more Gunther you can retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
