During the last weeks, the future of the Brothers struggle, Penta El Zero fear and King Fenix, has been the number of conversation number one in the wrestling world. The contracts of the former AEW couples world champions with AEW will expire soon, and the rumors have suggested that they would be destined for the WWE, with some reports that even claim that Penta had planned to meet with the WWE in Orlando this week.
This would lead Penta to deny the claims, denials that may have been true, since Penta has been in Mexico this week working on independent dates.
Now, another interesting detail has been added to the already strange equation. In the “Wrestling Observer Radio” program this morning, Dave Meltzer revealed that, if Aew wishes, they could keep Penta and Fenix in the promotion during the next year, and Meltzer cited the injury time as the reason. However, neither Meltzer nor Bryan Alvarez had heard anything about whether AEW would exercise that option or not.
While Penta has remained a great extent for AEW during the five years that he and Fenix have been in the promotion, having maintained a regular calendar both in AEW and Mexico, Fenix has lost a significant time on some occasions, including an absence of five months the past fall while recovering from an injury. Until today, no other report on the situation of the Brothers struggle has mentioned whether AEW was considering or not renewing his contracts.
For now, it seems that both Penta and Fenix are on their way to becoming free agents, perhaps at the end of this month. While Penta has publicly addressed the current situation, Fenix has kept silent about it. Throughout the situation, the duo has not appeared in AEW, the last time they fought was a month ago when they defeated Private Party in “Aew Rampage.”
