Interview with Alejandra Alonso

Very good, Ale. How are you?

Very good, happy to be here in Tarragona.

You arrived to play two consecutive semifinals in Bordeaux and Malaga, just starting new project with Claudia Jensen. How are you feeling by your side?

Well, the truth is that the sensations are very good. As you said, we came from two semifinals, I think the dynamic is very good. We are playing at a good level, we are attaching well. And that I didn't know her much. But the truth is that it has surprised me very positively, she is a super morning girl and who has a huge talent. It is time to continue growing and improving.

By player profile, Claudia Jensen is very different from Andrea Uso. How have you adapted to the style of your new partner? Have you changed anything in your game?

Yes, maybe I have to assume more responsibility in the definition, cover a little more track and learn to hit more when they play us. I am working to go competing little by little. But well, I think what we train later on the track is coming out, so I am satisfied.

“It was a moment that we needed to change and if we continued the same that would have ended up wearing our friendship.”

Now we talked about Usro and in Malaga, you also faced you against her. What is it like to play against someone you have shared so many moments?

When you enter the track, everything changes a little, but in the end the love and friendship are there. It is very difficult to see her in front of me. I always say that she is an incredible player, that you never know where the ball will play, so it's hard to play against her. As we cross ourselves I will take it a little better, but the truth is that now it costs me a bit to have it in front. I only have good words towards her.

You were one of the longest couples of the circuit. Why did you decide to change air?

As you said, we had been playing together for a long time and, in the end, everything has its end. They were a very good years, but I think it was a time that we both needed to change and, if we continued the same, that would have ended up wearing out our friendship. We were a good opportunity to continue growing, to continue adding and see how we were going with other teams, with other players.

Was it a complicated decision?

Yes of course. It was very complicated. I was playing next to my friend, we slept together and shared everything. In my case I was a little afraid of how things were going to come out, how our relationship would look and see that everything was going to change. But the truth is that today we are even better because we continue to spend time together during tournaments and there is a lot of confidence. It was difficult, but sometimes you have to change and the truth is that I am happy about how everything has gone.

“I trust projects a lot and I think everything has their job. Things are not always going to the first one”

After separating, you played some tournaments with Marta Ortega before getting together with Jensen. How have you fit so many changes in a short time after playing so long next to the same player?

The truth is that it costs me a lot. I am a person who trusts a lot about projects and I think everything has their job. You have to get well, things are not always going to the first. They were a difficult weeks, but it is something that I can not control either. You have to focus on continuing to work as I always do and trust.

With Jensen you form a young couple with great potential. Although today in the paddle can change everything very fast, do you look a lot of time by your side?

Yes, I would love. I trust a long -term couple. With Claudia I am very happy, I am comfortable. I think that little by little we are getting more known, both on and off the track. So hopefully the project is consolidated and we can play together for a while.

Despite your youth, you have been competing in the professional circuit for a long time. Do you feel that pressure of being one of the most promising players of the current paddle?

That pressure is always there. But well, in the end I try to enjoy. I am playing the sport that I like, surrounded by mine. I am not much of obsessing with the results, everything comes when it has to arrive. I focus on enjoying, training and improving every day as a player and as a person.

Finally. This season the paddle returned to the Plaza Mayor. What does it mean for a Valladolid play in this emblematic place?

It was very nice. Playing in front of my parents and my friends in that beautiful square is incredible. When I was little I went from picking up and told my mother: “I want to play here someday.” Being able to play there is a dream, it is one of the most special tournaments in the circuit. We could not enjoy too much because we crossed soon with a couple like Carmen and Bea, who are very good friends, but it was a pride.
