He Crystal Palace He has made history again in England. After conquering the FA Cup last season against Manchester City of Pep Guardiola, the English team beat the Liverpool in the penalty shootout (2-2/3-2) to proclaim champion of the Community Shield. A final in which Dean Henderson was fundamental and in which Mohammed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Eliott erred their releases.
As is usually the case with the Community Shield, the intensity for many minutes was more of pre -season friendly than official trophy, so surely when counting large titles it is usually excluded. Perhaps the motivation is also not the same for a Liverpool that has won it 16 times and that is accustomed to other dimensions, which for a palace that only has a hindering – the FA cup – in its showcase.
Even so, the first part was entertaining, starting with a goal by Hugo etkité at its official premiere as a Liverpool footballer. The 'Reds' demonstrated in the first 45 minutes that have invested well and the 0-1 made it Ekitiké to pass from Florian Wirtz and the 1-2 Jeremie Frimpong, in an attempt at the center that became a goal.
In between, Jean-Philippe Mateta missed a hand in hand, but he was fortunate that in the second virgil play Van Dijk took Ismaila Sarr ahead and the referee hunted the penalty. From eleven meters, Mateta put the momentary 1-1 for the palace.
Four minutes later came the aforementioned Frimpong and Liverpool relaxed. He had some occasion in the second half to take the title, but allowed the palace to grow and it was believed that, as a few months ago against Manchester City in this same stage, the surprise was possible.
After a great stop from Alisson Becker to Eberrechi Eze, El Palace achieved the matched thirteen minutes from the end, when Adam Wharton connected a deep pass to leave Sarr alone, which defined with power to the first stick.
A goal that knocked out the Liverpool and could be accompanied by 3-2 if Chris Kavanagh, the party's referee, would have seen the hand of Alexis Mac Allister within the area a minute later.
The tie remained with the ninety minutes fulfilled and the duel went to the penalty shootout, where Mohamed Salah began with a shot to the clouds that condemned a liverpool that no longer rose.
Dean Henderson, one of the Heroes of the FA Cup – by taking a penalty to Omar Marmoush in that final – arrested two of the following releases, Mac Allister and Elliott, and despite the failures of Eberrechi Eze and Borna Sosa, El Palace was proclaimed champion of the Community Shield for the first time in its history.
