David Alonso showed what he is done again. The Colombo-Spanish pilot closed in the eighth position the Italy Grand Prix in Mugello, a race that started uphill after losing six places in the start. But far from surrendering, he responded with temperance, solid rhythm and surgical overtaking to close a Sunday that, without shining, adds and holds.

Falling output, firm remote

The day did not start well for Alonso. From the eleventh box on the grill, a bad start made it fall to 17th place before reaching the first curve. He himself had warned in the previous one: in Mugello, the initial meters make a difference. This time, the difference was negative.

But the best of the Aspar Team pilot came later. From the fourth return, his comeback began, with a constant rhythm and cold head. In the tenth turn it was already rolled ninth, involved in full battle with Barry Baltus. The Belgian error, in the absence of four laps, allowed Alonso to place eighth and throw himself in search of Izan Guevara. He did not pass it, but he did add important points.

The eighth place gave Alonso eight more units in the general classification, where he is now 15 with 36 points. It ended 5.9 seconds from the winner, the Spanish Manuel González (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP), who signed a perfect weekend and is consolidated as leader of the championship. It was escorted by Albert Arenas and Aron Canet, on a completely Spanish podium.

General classification – Moto2 (Top 5):

  • 1 Manuel González – 143 pts
  • 2 Aron Canet – 134 pts
  • 3 Diogo Moreira – 103 pts
  • 4 Barry Baltus – 94 pts
  • 5 Jake Dixon – 85 pts
  • 15 David Alonso – 36 pts

Assen, the following challenge

Without time to rest, the Moto2 World Cup continues its course. The next weekend will be the turn of the iconic TT Circuit Assen, in the Netherlands. The practices will begin on Friday, June 27, with the classification scheduled for Saturday and the race agreed to 22 laps on Sunday 29 from 5:15 am (Colombia time).

David Alonso will seek to continue adding, consolidate in the average group of the table and, why not, start appearing to Top 10. In Mugello, he showed that, even in crooked days, he has what is necessary to compete.
