The confrontation between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk is WWE's rivalry that simply does not end. Long before Punk returned to wrestling in AEW, the native of Chicago unsuccessfully tried a career in MMA. McIntyre made headlines at UFC this week for a special visit during the current WWE European tour and caused a stir when addressing his rival in UFC.
The voice of the voiceless abandoned WWE in January 2014 and signed a multiple fighting contract with UFC on December 6. The injuries delayed the punk debut twice before losing against Mickey Gall due to submission in the first round on September 10, 2016 at UFC 203. He returned to the octagon on June 9, 2018 in UFC 225 in his hometown, but was dominated by Mike Jackson. The unanimous decision was subsequently annulled due to Jackson's positive marijuana test.
The Scottish psychopath attended the UFC Fight Night in the O2 Arena in London this week, and this was documented in the WWE Vlog shown below. While watching the action inside the octagon, McIntyre launched an indirect punk. The former TNA world champion said he would be much better in MMA than the former AEW world champion.
“I can say with confidence … if I got into the octagon right now, without any training, I would do it 1,000 times better than cm punk. I seriously say it, 1,000 times better,” said Drew McIntyre. (From 4:30 to 4:42)
McIntyre has no training history in MMA or real fights. He grew as a fan of professional wrestling and began training at age 15 after a pact with his parents who makes a great story for any fan.
