The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife Brigitte sued the defamation of the influencer estadounidense Candace Owens.
Owens, known for spreading conspiracy theories in his podcast and social networks, has several times that the French first lady was born with male sex.
The demand of the Macron, presented on Wednesday in the state of Delaware, in the US, alleges that Owens has been spreading “extravagant, defamatory and crazy fictions.”
Owens several times said these statements in his popular podcast and in his social networks.
In March 2024, he declared that he bet “all his professional reputation” that Brigitte Macron “is actually a man.”

The demand
“Owens has dissected his appearance (of the Macron), his marriage, his friends, his family and his personal history, misrepresenting everything in a grotesque narrative designed to inflame and degrade,” collects the demand, released by the Reuters agency.
He adds that the result of this has been “a relentless harassment worldwide.”
A conspiracy theory that has been circulating for years in marginal internet forums argues that Brigitte Macron was born as a man under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, which is actually that of his brother.
Owens has spread this theory among its large audience, which includes almost seven million followers in X.
Earl this year, he published a series of videos entitled Becoming Brigitte (“Becoming Brigitte”), which exceeds 2.3 million views on YouTube.
The unfounded speculations about the Brigitte Macron genre began to circulate in 2021 and have been addressed in several channels of conservative trend, such as the well -known Tucker Carlson and Joe Rogan podcasts.

Owens no one is pulled
The Macron pointed out in a statement released by their lawyers who asked Owens for their retraction repeatedly, but “finally concluded that resorting to a court was the only possible way to obtain repair.”
“The Owens defamation campaign was clearly designed to harass and cause our families, and to obtain attention and notoriety,” the statement said.
And he adds: “We gave him all the opportunities to retract these statements, but he refused.”
The demand alleges that Owens “ignored all the credible evidence that denied his statement, to instead offer a platform to the theoretical acquaintances of the conspiracy and defamers proven.”
The BBC contacted Owens to request comments, but has not received an answer at the moment.
A spokesman for the influencer He alleged in a statement that the lawsuit is an attempt to intimidate her, and said Brigitte Macron had rejected repeated interview requests.
“This is a foreign government by attacking the rights of the first amendment of an American independent journalist,” he said.
And he said that “Candace Owens is not going to shut up.”

The president and the French first also accuse her of falsely stating that both are consanguineous relatives, and that Emmanuel Macron was placed in power through a secret plot of the CIA.

According to US legislation, complainants must prove that there was “real malice”, that is, the defendant knew that the information was false but published or released them anyway.
In September last year, a French court declared two women's defamation guilty for disseminating this type of false statements about Brigitte Macron, but the decision was revoked in appeal earlier this month, according to the AFP agency.
Candace Owens is married to George Farmer, a British-American businessman and son of Michael Farmer, Baron and member of the United Kingdom Lores Chamber, as well as former former conservative party
Farmer has distanced himself from some of Owens' opinions.
