An important AEW star has been held by the company despite having requested its release. Eric Bischoff has advised Tony Khan to let him go.
AEW is known for keeping fighters in the roster without the intention of using them. Some names that come to mind are Miro, Ricky Starks and King Fenix. Miro was frustrated with his situation and requested his release in September 2024. However, nothing new has emerged since then.
On the other hand, Rey Fenix also requested his release last year. However, AEW added additional time due to injury to his contract, extending it, while his brother Penta began a new stage in his career in WWE.
In your podcast 83 WeeksEric Bischoff urged Tony Khan to free Miro and King Fenix and using the money spent better in them:
“If there is no plan to use them, then, for the love of God, I know that money does not matter because Tony does not pay financially for anything, but, damn it, do the right thing. It is not as if he were going to damage your business, Tony. Simply free them, save the money, say it.”
Eric Bischoff said AEW is ending Miro's career
Miro began his stage in AEW dominantly. He quickly captured the TNT championship and seemed to have made the right decision to join Tony Khan promotion. However, over time, Miro has been the victim of terrible management.
Just when he was about to be promoted again, the company set aside his plans for him. His last fight in the company took place at Worlds End 2023, and has not been seen on television since then.
During the same podcast, Eric Bischoff pointed out how Tony Khan is ruining Miro's career by not using it on television:
“When was the last time we saw Miro on television? A year and a half? I couldn't tell you. I mean, let's talk about ending someone's career. There are two ways to end someone's career: overexpose it and leave him in oblivion indefinitely. Outside the view, out of mind. This is how a brand is killed.”
It will be interesting to see if Tony Khan plans to use Miro or King Fenix in the future.
