The case of a 25 -year -old Gazatí student, enrolled at the Institute of Political Studies of Lille for the next course, is stirring the refugee reception policy of France. The young woman, who arrived in France on July 11 from Gaza thanks to a government reception program, was accused by users of the social network X of having disseminated anti -Semitic messages in an account that has been suppressed.

In subsequent days, his registration was annulled and French Foreign Minister, Macronist Jean-Noël Barrot, advertisement that would be expelled from the country. The opening of a judicial investigation in French territory for the apology of terrorism and apology for crimes against humanity has also been announced. After the mediatization of the case, Barrot was a step further and announced the temporal suspension of all the reception operations of Palestinians of Gaza.

A decision convicted by the leftist parties. Ecologists, France Insumisa and the Socialist Party consider appropriate to impose a sanction before the contents attributed to the student, but denounce that an isolated case be used to “condemn a whole group.”

Olivier Faure, first secretary of the French Socialist Party considered that the cancellation of the registration at the University was “perfectly justified”, but lamented the government's decision to freeze all requests from Gaza, which will be maintained while a joint investigation of the Ministries of Foreign and Interior Affairs on the screening of candidates is carried out.

We cannot condemn hundreds of refugees to death for the acts of a student, who will face the corresponding criminal and administrative consequences, “said Faure.” This decision contravenes our international commitments. ”

A position shared by the rest of the progressive forces. The deputy of France Insumisa Thomas Portes, denounced in an interview in the public chain France Info “the use of a case, particularly for the extreme right – which supports Israel – so that more Palestinian refugees do not arrive in France.”

Denunciations in networks

The controversy began last week. The 25 -year -old student had participated in a report on the RMC television network, in which she had her relief for having escaped from drones and bombings and her willingness to devote himself to humanitarian work to help Gazatis.

The day later, different accounts in X, including that of a medium of extreme right -wing called Bastion, pointed to a “newly arrived Gazatí refugee in France”, which was “Hitler fan” and that he shared “Nazi propaganda videos” in which “the killing of Jews is urged everywhere”.

Las screenshots They showed that an account attributed to the student – posteriorly closed – had retweeted messages in which the murder of Jews was addressed and, in particular, the execution of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas. In the subsequent hours several deputies of the Marine Le Pen party published messages on the subject.

A day later, contacted by the AFP agency, the University – popularly known as Sciences Po – declared that “the comments of the young woman on social networks had been confirmed”, without offering more details. They announced the cancellation of the student's enrollment, which had to start a master's degree in September. The institution declared that the content of these publications “directly contradict the values advocated by Sciences Po Lille.”

The school also explained that the admission of the young woman in this Institute of Higher Education was part of a program for Gazati Students created a year ago and that she had been enrolled “at the request of the Consulate General of France in Jerusalem.” The students of this program are selected among the inhabitants of the Strip based on their academic file and are subjected to security controls by the competent authorities before reaching France.

Conservative means

The case received attention from the news channels, particularly on the CNEWS conservative channel, which dedicated several segments in their programs. The French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau also reacted by stating that “Hamas propagandists do not paint anything in our country.”

After the mediatization of the case, Jean-Noël Barrot announced in the public channel France Info that France stopped all its programs for the evacuation of people from Gaza, waiting for the conclusions of an investigation “on the failures that had prevented detected to detect these publications”.

According to the minister, all the people welcomed from the beginning of the war in Gaza “will be subjected to a new control after the failures that led this young woman to here.” Last Wednesday, the same television channel reported on the restlessness generated among the people who are part of the program, collecting anonymous testimonies, in which the candidates shared the fear of seeing their participation revoked.

Since the beginning of the war between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas, France has welcomed hundreds of people from the Gaza Strip. Question by AFP, the French Foreign Ministry did not specify the number of people affected by this decision, claiming confidentiality reasons.

Also on Wednesday, the collective Ma'an for the artists of Gazacommitted to the reception of Gazatis in exile, published a tribune in the newspaper Libération against the government's decision. “The messages we are receiving (from Gaza) in recent weeks are no longer even requests for help, but testaments, farewells.”

Return to Gaza

In the case of the Gazatí student, the minister even suggested that he could be expelled to Gaza, despite the dramatic humanitarian situation. “Judicial actions will be initiated and, based on these elements, it may be returned to your country, obviously,” he said last week.

Finally, the Ministry announced that the young woman had abandoned France to Qatar. “Given the gravity (of the facts) he could not remain in French territory. He has abandoned France to go to Qatar, where he will continue his studies.” Exteriors thanked in the statement to the catari authorities “their decisive cooperation.”

The young woman's lawyer, Ossama Dahmane, also confirmed through a statement that she had “made the decision, in consultation with the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, to continue his studies in another country, to lower the tension and preserve his safety.” Although he reaffirmed that the young woman “firmly refutes all the accusations poured against her” (…) “that are based mainly on retweeted messages that have been taken out of context,” he added.

On Thursday, July 31, the Lille Prosecutor's Office announced to the France-Presse (AFP) agency to open an investigation into the apology messages of terrorism and apology for crimes against humanity published on social networks by the student Gazatí.
