After years of waiting for the biographical film of Hulk Hogan announced for the first time in 2019 for Netflix, fans received an unfortunate update in August that the film starring Chris Hemsworth had been discarded.
During a recent appearance in his “PBD Podcast“, Hogan, twice a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, analyzed what happened with the project.
“Netflix jumped a contract,” said Hogan. “There was a payment that was not made at the right time. The script was incredible. In fact, Scott Silver, who wrote the script of 'El Guasón', 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and a lot of other movies, said: 'This is the best I have ever written.' And when I read it, I thought: 'My God, this is really good.'”
Hogan considered that the script was dark, but also something that the public would probably wanted to see.
“At that time I was advancing and when they, from the commercial point of view, did not meet a date, I had the option to retire and did it. I retired,” Hogan revealed.
The WWE Hall of Fame also mentioned skepticism about Hemsworth's announcement, and some said he had only played fictitious characters.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon announced in August that they were going to make a movie based on Hogan that would focus on their trial with the now missing Gawker website, titled “Killing Gawker”. Hogan, who is not involved in that film, said he wants creative control, not creative participation, for any project in which he participates, and that anyone who tries to make a film about him without his participation could end in a bad legal position due to retained rights about the history of his life.
