Hulk Hogan received strong boos from WWE fans when he appeared at Raw Netflix's premiere on January 6. Buff Bagwell, Hogan's former companion on WCW, recently shared his thoughts about the surprising reaction of the public.
Hogan went to fans in the stage area with his lifelong manager, Jimmy Hart. The two -time member of the WWE Hall of Fame gave a speech as “Babyface” and thanked fans forever to support him. Ironically, the crowd responded by booing everything he said.
On your YouTube channel Marcus Buff BagwellBagwell revealed that he wanted to attend RAW's debut episode in Netflix. The five -time WCW couples champion also expressed their disappointment for the treatment of fans towards Hogan:
“I tell you that I am up to not have been there, so I'm going through these emotions and then my main guy, man, Goat, receives boos, brother,” Bagwell said. “I was devastated, I was devastated, and what hurt me the most was to see his face. He surprised him, and I think he affected him to boo it. And if they notice, Jimmy even stopped shaking the flag.” (1:08 – 1:45)
Hogan has been under scrutiny since 2015, when a tape was leaked in which he used racist language. During the last year, his public support for the then elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, has also generated controversy.
Buff Bagwell on Hulk Hogan reaction to the boos
Although Hulk Hogan continued with his RAW promo as planned, the wrestling icon was visibly surprised to realize that fans booed him.
Buff Bagwell believes that this moment is one of the most unexpected Hogan has experienced in the wrestling business:
“It is not the first time that he is surprised. I can tell you, if you had a complete conversation with him, he is in the top two or three of the greatest impacts he has had because I did not see him coming, you did not see him coming, and I think he either, or otherwise he would not have done it. I would not have done it if I had planned it.” (2:26 – 2:46)
Eric Bischoff, friend of Hogan and former Chief on WCW, spoke about the reaction of the public in The Wrestling Time Machine. He explained why fans booed Hogan and encouraged The Undertaker even though they both have the same political inclinations.
