In an interview with Efe, Sergio García says he will continue to compete in the LIV, where he has three and a half seasons, and although he admits that “the ideal” would be the reconciliation of the world of golf and that the Saudi league out of the American's hand (PGA Tour) and the European (DP World Tour), believes that there is “hole for all.”

The 45 -year -old Castellón player accepts the role of a favorite in the Valderrama Tournament (Cádiz) in July to conquer his fifth title and believes that there are reasons to think that Spain can be chosen to house the Ryder Cup of 2031.

Ask. How is it at this time of the season?

Answer. I started very well. After Augusta's master's degree, I lowered a little, I lost a little confidence, but I've been working hard. I am trying to improve a couple of tactical and technical things in the game, in the 'swing', and trying to take confidence. Let's see if I take a good streak.

Q. How do you motivate a tournament like Valderrama that has played 19 times and in which he has won four titles?

A. It is simple. Motivation comes because we are competitors, because we love it. And I love playing in all parts of the world, but in Valderrama and in Spain even more. What better motivation than that. Play in front of your people, in your favorite field, with your favorite team … and giving everything to try to enjoy, you already people.

Q. Does the favorite poster assume to repeat title?

A. That's good. Every week is a world, but I am wanting to get there, to give everything I have and give myself options to win again in Valderrama, which is always super special. I am looking forward.

Q. This year he has won in Hong Kong, but did not pass the cut in Augusta's masters, what feeling of the season?

A. Nobody like to fail in the cut and even less in great as Augusta. But if they had told me at the beginning of the season that I was going to be at the end of June fourth in the LIV, with a victory, three with the team, having played a couple of greats and having made very good weeks, I would certainly have taken it. When you have a break in the last two months it gives you a little sorrow, but you have to look global and it is being a very solid season.

Q. Are you going to continue playing in the LIV circuit?

A. Without any doubt, I am demonstrating it. Last year I was third in the individual classification of the League, the team motivates a lot … wanting to continue giving war for a few more years.

Q. Is the reconciliation of the golf world viable or after three years a model has settled in which there is a place for LIV, PGA and DP World Tour?

A. There is a place for everyone. LIV is a more formula 1 circuit, more aimed at younger people, it is faster, more dynamic … the most important thing is that we get the more people to hook the golf, the better. The ideal would be that we were all taken by hand? Maybe yes, but maybe it's not the best for golf. You never know. There are different people for different types of tastes and circuits. We are different and we can attract other people or ages.

Q. What tournaments do you have in the short term?

A. For the British Open (July 17 to 20) we are still there. If everything goes well and I keep my post I hope to be. And first I will play the Munich Open (Germany, from July 2 to 6) and the LIV tournaments.

Q. After not playing the last Ryder Cup of 2023, do you trust in the European team to the September event?

A. I hope to be in New York. All I can do is keep doing things right, as I have been doing for practically all season and last and give options to the captain (Luke Donald) consider that I am the right person to help the team in everything I can help. Being in New York, knowing how complicated the Ryder will be there, with an audience with a lot of energy and makes a lot of noise, a little experience can come well, but I have to win that position playing well and demonstrating that I can help the team.

Q. Does the experience include the balance on your side?

A. It depends a little on what the captain is looking for. Just from experience you can't go, you have to show that you have a game. Experience is important, especially playing away from home, which is a bit more complicated for the newest people, but you must demonstrate that the experience is accompanied by good game.

Q. Are there reasons to be optimistic that the Ryder Cup of 2031 will be in Spain?

A. It would be very nice after having had the 1997 in Valderrama. Spain is an important country in the world of sport, not only in Europe, also internationally, and in golf. We have given many very good players and although we are not a huge country like the United States or England, we are doing things well and it would be nice to see another Ryder in Spain.

Q. Will the Spanish Open play in October?

A. I would love to play again in Madrid, I have it inside my plans, but many things can happen. It is something that I have planned and I would like to be there.

Q. The prominent role that young players like David Puig, Josele Ballester, Paula Martín, Carla Bernat … What does Spanish golf say?

A. The quality of athletes in Spain is seen without being a country in the volume of the United States or others. Indicates the good DNA we have, not only in golf. In tennis, in basketball, in football of course, in motorcycling … wherever you go it seems that there are good Spaniards everywhere. That, as Spaniards, is amazing to see and makes me feel a tremendous pride.
