That was the biggest challenge we had today, to control the game with the ball and nullify Reading in their transitions.

“I thought the boys were superb, their concentration from the start to the end was great, with some really good individual performances within the game as well.”

  U18s report: Reading 0-3 Arsenal

Adam highlighted practises in training that shone through on the pitch against the Royals and was delighted to see a clear understanding of his instructions in the team’s performance. “The maturity they played with, with our transition work we’ve been doing, when we win the ball back…” he said. “We’ve been having lots of conversations…

“When are the moments to go and hurt the opposition, when are the moments to try and keep the ball and when are the moments to maybe hook it on and gain territory.

“I thought the maturity in those moments today was superb and that’s why the boys ended up with a 3-0 win today, in my opinion.

“It’s the small things throughout the game that they were consistent at in their decision making and support of each other that really made the difference today.

After picking up four wins from their first five U18 Premier League South games, victories have since been far and few for our under-18s, a pattern that Adam hopes can soon turn.

With six games left of the campaign, Adam wants to use the win over Reading as a springboard to a solid finish in 2025/26. “It’s been up and down performances but what we want to be is consistent, so I guess what it shows is we’re not consistent yet.

“It’s good that we’ve had a win and we obviously want to build on it. We’re a young team and I guess what it can show, if we can be consistent from this game to the end of the season and hopefully this is our new level of performance.

“That’s not easy to maintain and we’ve got to train hard and be on it every single game, together, individually and collectively. I think the long-term picture is yet to be seen but short-term, today we’re really pleased.

Copyright 2026 The Arsenal Football Club Limited.
