In total 46.9% of Newcastle United\u2019s attacks came down their right wing, where Eddie Howe\u2019s side raided via several players including Jacob Murphy, Lewis Miley, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes and Elanga. <\/p>\n
With Eberechi Eze often tucked inside as an inverted left winger, it was not always easy to cope, but none of those Magpies players got any change out of Hincapie, who manfully stood his ground. <\/p>\n

Below is our second attempt at this set piece, which ended with Eze shooting just wide.<\/p>\n The key difference for our goal, was Madueke\u2019s decision to use Odegaard as a decoy, passing the ball early to Havertz instead. <\/p>\n Sensing that Newcastle had sent two defenders out, instead of three, Martin Zubimendi\u2019s run along the byline \u2013 rather than six yards out previously \u2013 a lovely wide avenue opened up for that pass into the German\u2026 <\/p>\n Havertz held the ball well before setting a perfectly weighted pass for Eze to strike first time. <\/p>\n Soaring into the top corner, it was one of the most impressive set piece goals of the Premier League campaign. <\/p>\n We now hold the record for most goals scored from corners in a single season (17) with 13 of those putting us 1-0 up, which is another Premier League high. <\/p>\n Interestingly, we have scored from just two short corners, and they came home and away against the Magpies. <\/p>\n \n Read more<\/span> <\/p>\n <\/p>\n On an evening when we created just 0.49 expected goals (our second lowest figure of the campaign) and no big chances, we did have to ride our luck a little when Newcastle United fashioned the two best opportunities of the game. <\/p>\n The first arrived inside 30 seconds when Will Osula raced through on goal from a counter attack. Thankfully, in the 1v1 with David Raya, the visiting striker\u2019s standing foot touched the ball as he was about to shoot, prompting the youngster to miss his kick completely. <\/p>\n The red arrow in the image below suggests where he was aiming to place his shot. <\/p>\n During the second half, substitute Yoane Wissa also missed a gilt-edged chance that was well created by Eddie Howe\u2019s side. <\/p>\n Cleverly finding Nick Woltemade as the spare man, courtesy of a midfield overload, the German produced a brilliant, delicate chip pass over our stranded central defenders. <\/p>\n With space so limited it was an exceptional ball, but after being put under pressure by David Raya, who raced out to narrow the angle, Wissa was unable to control his volley. <\/p>\n With just over ten minutes left to play it would have been a crushing blow for the Magpies to equalise at this point of the game. <\/p>\n Pleasingly, we kept our noses in front and limited Newcastle United well for the rest of the encounter. <\/p>\n \n Read more<\/span> <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The north-east giants are one of the fittest, most athletic sides in the country, so this clash was always going to be a highly physical tussle. <\/p>\n Across 101 minutes of action, we ran 116.25km, which is a couple of kilometres above our season average, and 3.45km further than we covered last time out against Manchester City. The Magpies ran an impressive 116.72km. <\/p>\n Our captain Martin Odegaard led by example when it came to distance covered, running a match-high 11.89km. Next in line was Declan Rice on 11.18km. <\/p>\n Rice and Zubimendi are both inside the Premier League\u2019s top 10 for distance ran in 2025\/26 so far. <\/p>\n This match was also notable for Gabriel Martinelli hitting an amazing top speed of 36.74km\/hr. <\/p>\n That is the quickest anyone has run for the Gunners this term, and it also ranks him the second fastest player in the Premier League behind Wolverhampton Wanderers\u2019 Jackson Tchatchoua. <\/p>\n Bukayo Saka made his first appearance since the Carabao Cup Final, coming on as an 81st-minute substitute \u2013 and he made an instantly positive impression. <\/p>\n Running with the ball at speed he had a shot deflected just wide, moments after entering the fray. <\/p>\n And from a similar move down the right he attracted two Newcastle United players towards him, before slipping a pass to Odegaard who was free in space. <\/p>\n The skipper\u2019s stinging effort was well saved by Nick Pope. <\/p>\n Touching the ball inside the opposition box three times during his brief stint on the pitch, it was fantastic to see Saka fit and in full flow. <\/p>\n \n Read more<\/span> <\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Copyright 2026 The Arsenal Football Club Limited.
