The result means that Bremen need, at most, one win from their final three league games to secure safety in the Bundesliga after beating Hamburg in a crucial game last weekend.

Over in Portugal, Jakub Kiwior started two games in the space of four days for Porto with mixed results. Jakub first helped his side to a clean sheet on Wednesday night in a 0-0 draw in the second leg of their Taca de Portugal semi-final against Sporting CP, but it wasn’t enough to prevent an aggregate defeat.

The Liga Portugal leaders bounced back on Saturday though as Jakub featured in a hard-earned 2-1 win away to Estrela Amadora. While Benfica’s 4-1 win over Moreirense means the Dragoes were made to wait for the title, victory at home to Alverca this Saturday will be enough to crown Porto champions regardless of Benfica’s result.

In France, Ethan Nwaneri was an unused substitute as Marseille squandered the lead late on to draw 1-1 with Nice. The result leaves the former European champions four points off the Champions League places with just three games to play. As it stands, Marseille are in line to qualify for next season’s Europa League.

Closer to home, Reiss Nelson’s Brentford haven’t been in action over the weekend, but face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night in a huge game in the race for European football. Victory would take the Bees up to sixth place, while a win for United would see the Red Devils move within a point of Champions League qualification.

Several of our academy players have been in action during the week as well. In Sweden, Charles Sagoe Jr’s Kalmar picked up their first point of the new Allsvenskan season with a 1-1 draw against Goteborg; Charles played the full 90 minutes for the third time in four games this season.

Charles Sagoe Jr joins Kalmar FF on loan

Lucas Nygaard’s Brabrand IF continued their incredible run of defensive form in the Danish second division with a 0-0 draw away to VSK Arhus. The clean sheet is a fourth in a row for Brabrand, who have conceded just two goals in their last seven games.

While there were no goals in Brabrand’s game, there were six in Crawley Town’s – home to Louie Copley this season. Louie’s side were behind three times in their game against Accrington Stanley, but netted three equalisers to draw 3-3 and remain outside the League Two relegation zone on goal difference. Heading into the final day of the season, Crawley are one of five teams that could fill one of the two relegation places at the end of an exhilarating battle.

Just above the chaos of the relegation battle sit Ismeal Kabia’s Shrewsbury Town, who are home and dry for another season in the EFL. That didn’t stop The Shrews battling to the very last against Fleetwood at the weekend though, as Ismeal scored a 96th-minute equaliser to earn his side a point from a thrilling 2-2 draw.

A number of our women’s players have also been playing valuable minutes over the past week. Laila Harbert was a late substitute for Everton in their 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in their WSL contest at Goodison Park.

Rosa Kafaji also made a late appearance for her Brighton side as they produced a stunning performance to beat WSL leaders Manchester City 3-2 at Broadfield Stadium. The result means that we could close the gap on City to just two points at the top of the league table if we were to win all three of our games in hand.

Meanwhile, in European action, Vivienne Lia’s Hammarby were beaten 1-0 by Swedish rivals BK Hacken in the first leg of the inaugural UEFA Women’s Europa Cup Final. The tie is far from over though, with the second leg taking place on Friday afternoon in Gothenburg.

Jenna Nighswonger’s Aston Villa haven’t been in action over the past couple of weeks, with games against Chelsea and ourselves moved owing to fixture clashes in other competitions. The Villains are next in action on Monday, May 4 against West Ham United, before we travel to Villa Park on Saturday, May 9.

Copyright 2026 The Arsenal Football Club Limited.
