Shortly before his pre-Southampton press conference at the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Friday, Mikel Arteta was named Premier League Manager of the Month for March.<\/p>\n

The boss guided us to the division\u2019s only 100% record that month as we beat Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton to extend our lead at the top of the table.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the award, Mikel praised the collective effort: \u201cWell that means that we won a lot of games in a really important and crucial part of the season, so a good team effort.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s a reflection of what the team is doing, on the level of performances and the amount of games that we are winning, as I said, I think it\u2019s just a reflection of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After our last match at Wembley Stadium was a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final prior to the international break, Mikel says he and his team are hungry to get back there as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

To do so, we\u2019ll have to beat Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals at St. Mary\u2019s Stadium on Saturday night, which would book our place back under the famous arch for the semis.<\/p>\n

Asked about the importance of this weekend\u2019s trip to the south coast, our manager said: \u201cHuge competition, so related to the history of our football club. We\u2019re going to play a team that is in a really good moment, they have won so many games recently, they\u2019re in a really good moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know the expectations, the crowd, the environment that they are going to create, so we are ready for that, and we want to be at Wembley again, so tomorrow we have the opportunity to do that again.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s set to be an exciting occasion at Southampton, who will be wearing their yellow away kit to mark 50 years since winning the FA Cup, when they wore yellow in a 1-0 win over Manchester United in 1976. That means we\u2019ll be in our home kit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the magic of the FA Cup, that every scenario, every context, every game, has a history,\u201d Mikel added. \u201cThis one is a special one and we are ready to face that tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mikel was asked in a creative fashion which of our goalkeepers could be starting tomorrow – will it be a Spanish goalkeeper with a name that ends in the letter \u2018a\u2019?<\/p>\n

Our manager weighed up more similarities between David Raya and Kepa before responding in similar style: \u201cI think tomorrow the goalkeeper is going to be European, he\u2019s under 32, right-footed and speaks at least two languages!\u201d<\/p>\n

There were also questions surrounding our response to the Carabao Cup final defeat, and how much we want to use that pain as fuel and motivation to put things right going forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you didn’t manage to win that final I think what you have to take on board is how this is going to make us stronger for the final push of the season,\u201d Mikel added.\u00a0\u201cThat has been the mindset, that has been all the work that we have done in the last few days to use that as fuel, as tools to be able to get the final push that we want and achieve what we want.<\/p>\n

\u201cImmediately I could sense that and the way we look at ourselves and the things that we could have done better and how the game can shift at that level from the first and second half. That’s something that we need to manage better and again this is going to make us better I’m sure and we have to use it for the most important and beautiful part of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIdeally you play a game the next day and when you have an international break sometimes it’s not exactly what you want but use it in the right way. We’ve had a lot of work done, analysed what we’ve been doing not only in that one but in the last 120 days.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amount of games that we play, our winning ratio, the things that we have accomplished, give some perspective and at the same time be very critical of what we can do better to help the players more and to be able to win any game in any context.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
