Gustavo Petro has assured that “the US no longer meets international law” and has asked that the United Nations headquarters cease to be in New York, after the US State Department announced that it revoked the visa to urge an act in New York to US soldiers “to disobey orders and incite violence”.
“I arrived in Bogotá and I find that I no longer have a visa to the US. To go to Ibagué to the great Tolimense concentration for democracy I do not need a visa. Separating the US from Colombia is what the mafias need. What the US government does with me, breaks all the norms of immunity on which the operation of the United Nations and its general assembly is based,” he said in his Twitter account.
“There is total immunity for the presidents who attend the assembly and the US government cannot condition the opinion of the US With international law.
The US State Department announced Friday to withdraw the visa to the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, to urge an act in New York to US soldiers “to disobey orders and incite violence.”
“This morning, the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, addressed the US soldiers in a New York street by urging them to disobey orders and incite violence,” says a message from the State Department on the social network X. “For these reckless and provocative actions, we will revoke the petro visa,” adds the brief message.
They refer to a demonstration that took place on Friday in New York in favor of Palestine and against the presence of Netanyahu in the United Nations Assembly, which pronounced its speech with an almost empty room after most delegations abandoned it as a protest.
According to Petro, the revocation of his American visa does not care because he does not need it, since he also has Italian citizenship and can travel with the electronic travel authorization system (this one, its acronym in English), which exempts from the visa.
“I do not need a visa, but this, because I am not only a Colombian citizen but a European citizen, and in reality I consider myself a free person in the world,” added the president.
The granting of this, however, is not automatic for the citizens of the exempted countries of the mandatory visa and is equally subject to the approval of the US authorities.
