The Colombian flag waved at the top of the podium on the first day of the World Parathletics Championship of New Delhi 2025. The Mayerli Buitrago Santander was awarded the gold in the F41 bullet driving test.
Buitrago recorded a 10.21 meter launch that consolidated it as the best in its category. The podium was completed by Kubaro Khakimova, from Uzbekistan, who took the money, and Raoua Tlili, from Tunisia, multiple Paralympic medalist, who this time stayed with the bronze.
The national team arrived in the Indian capital last Wednesday with a delegation of 16 paratletas, representatives of eight departmental leagues: Valle, Santander, Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Cauca, Córdoba, Bolívar and Tolima. The objective is to consolidate the country as a paralympic power.
This World Cup will take place between September 27 and October 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, one of the most emblematic sports scenarios in Asia. The enclosure, with capacity for 60,000 spectators, will house more than 1,000 athletes from the entire planet.
The triumph of Buitrago is just the beginning of a harvest for the national delegation. Colombia also features other paratletas with which it aspires to achieve historical participation such as Karen Palomeque, José Gregorio Lemos, Mauricio Valencia and Jhon Sebastián Obando, among others.
