After a long belt tournament, Candice Lerae defeated Iyo Sky in the final to become the first WWE Speed champion. He did it after defeating Kairi Sane in the semifinal before SmackDown began.
This was a surprising result for many, taking into account the respective positions of Lerae and Sky in the WWE. Anyway, it is still a great victory for The Poison Pixie, whose ring skills have not shown much lately.

Candice Lerae finally won gold at WWE
Before his arrival in WWE, Candice had already forged a solid reputation in the independent wrestling scene, working on promotions such as Pro Wrestling Guerrillas (PWG) and Shimmer Women Athletes. In PWG, he won notoriety for participating in intergenre fighting and being the only woman to win the World Championship in PWG couples, along with Joey Ryan, as part of the team “The World's Cutst Tag Team”.
Lerae debuted in WWE in 2017 as part of the Mae Young Classic tournament and although he did not win, his performance impressed enough for WWE to sign it with a development contract. From that moment on, Candice became an outstanding figure in NXT.
Throughout his time in NXT, Candice participated in several important stories, including rivalries against Io Shirai, Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox, and crowned champion in pairs with Indi Hartwell. As his career progressed, she was also part of the “The Way” faction, along with her husband Johnny Gargano.
In 2022, Candice Lerae took a WWE break due to her pregnancy and became the mother of her first child with Johnny Gargano until she returned in 2023. Now in 2024 she won gold for the first time in the regular roster of the WWE after being the first WWE Speed Women's winner.
