The leader of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has confirmed that the businessman Antxon Alonso, a native of Elgoibar like him, presented Santos Cerdán, his partner in Servinabar 2000. It was the beginning of the interlocution between the PSOE and the Abertzale coalition. The former PSOE, now imprisoned, explained in his statement this Monday before the Supreme Court.
“When I leave prison (in 2016 he expired his last conviction), I have a friend, my very friend, and who is a friend of Antxon Alonso for family reasons. I did not know Antxon Alonso. And I propose to be with him because he has an offer to make me. The offer is that there is a member of the PSN who wants to be with me,” Otegi told a press conference.
And he has continued: “I see Antxon twice. One when he tells me that there is a PSN proposal, a leader to be with me. And another is because he brings him to the appointment in which I am with him.” That Navarrese leader was Cerdán and arrived in the businessman's car. “He was not very luxurious,” he joked even on that vehicle, in the light that Alonso is under suspicion of handling large amounts of money. In that meeting, it was set “what was going to be the interlocution between the PSOE and EH Bildu,” Otegi said. “I have been talking about eight years with the PSOE without anyone entering,” he added too.
“Cerdán has been one of the main interlocutors of EH Bildu. We have no problem recognizing that. It has not been the only one, but it has been a very important interlocutor,” said the Abertzale leader, who has pointed out that he has no problem in explaining this in front of others, in evening reference to the PNV, who prefer to juggle. With Cerdán, in addition to being a stable partner of Pedro Sánchez, EH Bildu has supported six budgets in Navarra and has facilitated two investigations of María Chivite. A motion of censure in Pamplona has also been consummated that the Mayor's Office returned to Joseba Asiron.
Otegi, in his appearance, has affirmed that “we must fight corruption who falls” but has also said that “behind this there are more things.” In fact, he has insisted that in Euskal Herria, he cannot be given by good without more a cause led by the Supreme Court or by the Civil Guard. There are “motivated reasons” to think that “sometimes things are not what they seem.” He has transferred this reflection in private to socialist leaders.
In any case, Otegi has said that he does not generate “surprise” that cases and plots appear in Spain because “they have exile Majesty” for that reason. “Corruption begins in the transition. It is part of the nature of the 1978 regime,” he insisted.
Asked if EH Bildu continues to support the Government of Pedro Sánchez, he has not denied that there is “a turning point” in the legislature in the light of what happened around Cerdán. “It is no longer worth saying that others are worse,” he said. He has appealed to a structural “regeneration” of the State and has indicated that the formation will operate “with responsibility, as always”.
