The last weekend of June, Paipa (Boyacá) became much more than the headquarters of a sporting event. For three days, the Nairo partydriven by cyclist Nairo Quintana, transformed the traditional great background into an experience that mixed sport, culture and social commitment.

This year, the great background not only brought together hundreds of cyclists. It became a festival for the whole family. Since Friday, Paipa welcomed thousands of visitors who toured a fair full of local products: crafts, gastronomy and samples of Boyacense talent.

Saturday changed the rhythm. The streets were filled with runners in 5 and 10 kilometers tests, while the children had their space with activities designed for them. Meanwhile, the cultural agenda added musical presentations, talks and shows that showed the cultural wealth of the region.

On Sunday, cycling took prominence again. More than 7,000 cyclists participated in routes of different demands: from the challenging great background of 152 km to MTB tests. The tours crossed landscapes and municipalities that are part of Quintana's sports history, connecting the past of the champion with new generations of fans.

Nairo Fest also served as a stage to launch “Smiles by way”a campaign designed to invite cyclists, pedestrians and drivers to share the road with respect and responsibility. Beyond a simple motto, Quintana's proposal seeks to build a cultural change that makes roads a safer space for everyone.

The festival closed with the music of Rafa Pérez, putting rhythm at the end of a weekend that showed that sport can go hand in hand with culture and social consciousness.

What's coming for Nairo

After passing through the Tour of Italy and the return to Switzerland, Nairo Quintana already thinks about his next great challenge: the Back to Spainwhich will start on August 23. A race that will mark the closure of its season and that, as always, will be supported by thousands of followers.
