The two opposition parties in the Elche City Council, PSOE and Compromís, and the unions UGT and Workers Commissions have declined the invitation made by the mayor of Elche, Pablo Ruzupon signing the Pact of Elche for the Self-Employedwhich will take place this Thursday in the Plenary Hall. The matter arises after last Monday's plenary session, in which the councilor brought a proposal against the increase in contributions, an issue on which the Government had already backed down. The councilor challenged the opposition, which abstained, to debate this matter and that same morning he had already issued two invitations to the unions to attend the signing of an agreement, by the Elche City Council and the economic and business entities of the municipality, by the self-employed. Ruz called it the Pact of Elche. The appointment would take place this Thursday the 30th at 11:30 am. “Your entity is part of this group of signatories, which is why it is requested confirm attendance indicating the full name and position of the representative who will sign,” the letter said.
Both UGT and Workers' Commissions have excused their presence for two reasons, one of form and the other of substance. The first due to “agenda problems” and the second because “we do not know exactly what is going to be signed without having any document that refers to the signature. We understand that when talking about an agreement in capital letters it refers to something that has been agreed upon, discussed at negotiation tables previously and from different points of view to reach a consensus and reach it, which has not occurred in our municipality,” said the secretary of CC OO, Carmen Palomar. UGT expressed itself in similar terms. Ismael Senent: “We would have liked to first know in detail and previously discuss the possible proposals and solutions that make up the aforementioned pact.”

If the bench of this pact has three legs, there is one that has fallen off, the union, but also two of the four groups with representation in the City Council. The PSOE said it will not go. Its spokesman, Héctor Díez, assured that “a document that has been imposed and that has not been subjected to a process of dialogue and contributions cannot be called an agreement, taking into account all the business entitiesunions and political forces.” According to the socialist, “the haste and haste with which all this has been done suggests that there is more interest in the photo than in making truly effective proposals that help the self-employed in Elche.” He added that, in addition, “the document has been sent less than 24 hours in advance, it only consists of a page and a half and it certainly seems very generic and insufficient given the importance of the issue. Within the document it is surprising that there are no local measures and even more surprising that having evidence that there are business associations that they have sent us about 25 proposals, only a few very general outlines appear.” The councilor concluded by assuring that “the PSOE will not be in the video of Pablo Ruz's self-employed workers, but we will always be there to dialogue with the business entities and unions and this is how we have conveyed it by telephone, I personally, to all the business associations and unions, that they count on us, but that what Pablo Ruz does only pursues purely partisan goals and communication strategy”.

Along the same lines, Compromís assured that the pact is “an initiative that has come to us by surprise, without a firming of the proposals or prior consensus, and that responds once again to the partisan interest of Pablo Ruz,” said the spokesperson, Esther Díez. “We are not going to sign any pact without previously knowing their proposals, nor one about which we have not been previously informed, nor to the political opposition nor to the unions. Therefore, from Compromís what we are going to do is defend the call for a first working meeting with which, collectively, we address these issues in a more effective, participatory and democratic way. Having reached a consensus, we will sign the pact that is agreed upon by all parties, and we will defend the actions that truly support the rights of self-employed personsThe formation highlighted its “support for the autonomous people of our municipality, despite Mr. Ruz's insistence on making Elche citizens believe that we are against them. And that is why we want to do it with a pact in which we address fundamental issues, such as public financing, access to more affordable and sustainable energy, increased coverage and the eradication of the figure of false self-employed, among other proposals that we propose.”
The councilor highlighted that Minister Elma Saiz's rectification on this matter is due to the action of Compromís-Sumar and the Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, “who has expressed her disagreement with said measure.” He concluded by saying that “neither Mr. Ruz nor any of his Vox government partners They are going to come now to give us lessons on the defense of labor rights, whether of self-employed or salaried people, much less with the requirement of signing an agreement whose content we do not know. Nor will we accept demands or outbursts from Mr. Ruz, who rejects the increase in the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI), the labor reform, the reduction of the working day and, ultimately, the dignity of employment.”
