He Spanish water polo explodes against him Higher Sports Council (CSD), which depends on Government of Spainby the “repeated breach of the commitments acquired with the development” of this sport. All teams of the National Honor Division Leagues (top category), both male and female, are joined for denounce the “institutional abandonment” of the government With the water polo, something that “is a frontal attack on the success model that has led to the Spanish water polo to the top of the international panorama.” Precisely this statement coincides with the great success of the Spanish team, which has just been proclaimed world champion in the male category.

Clubs Affean to CSDs that have announced the implementation of specific water support plans, “Committing specific financial aid”. «However, reality has been very different. These commitments have only materialized in 2022 and 2024, being totally breached in 2023 and, unacceptably, also in 2025, ”they comment.

Hence they demand to the CSD, and, therefore, to the Government of Pedro Sánchez «that immediately rectifyfulfill your word and restore compromised aids, establishing a stable support line of at least 2,500,000 euros per year to Los Angeles 2028 ».

Full statement of Spanish water polo teams

The clubs that integrate the National WaterPolo of Honor Waterpol, both male and female, we want to express our most absolute outrage at the repeated breach by the Superior Sports Council (CSD) of the commitments acquired with the development of the Spanish water polo.

Since 2021, the CSD has publicly announced the implementation of special water support plans, compromising specific and finalist financial aid. However, reality has been very different. These commitments have only materialized in 2022 and 2024, being totally breached in 2023 and, unacceptably, also in this 2025.

We are not talking about abstract promises: these are firm agreements, endorsed by different responsible for the CSD-State Secretaries as general directors-who have been systematically ignored.

This institutional abandonment implies a frontal attack on the success model that has led to the Spanish water polo to the top of the international panorama. A model based on the coordination between the RFEN and the Honor Division Clubs, in the rigorous planning of calendars, concentrations and preparation of our national selections, always subject to the strategic objectives set by the CSD itself.

While these aids withdraw, our selections continue to leave a mark on the international scene with world prestige triumphs. The medals achieved in the recent Singapur Swimming World Cup remind us, once again, that the Spanish water polo occupies the top of this sport. We cannot forget that only a few months ago the male team was proclaimed world league champion and the women's team reached the Olympic top in Paris with a historic gold medal. These achievements would not be possible without the effort of clubs, which – without public support – maintain the preparation, training and competition of the best athletes in the country.

We demand that the CSD immediately rectify, fulfill its word and restore compromised aids, establishing a stable support line of at least € 2,500,000 per year to Los Angeles 2028.

Spanish sport needs institutions that are up to its athletes. We do not accept more excuses, or more empty promises. If this situation is not reversed immediately, we notice that the start of the state competences of water polo is serious. Clubs cannot and should not continue to assume the weight of national high performance alone.

Enough of words. It is time for facts.
