He Technical Referees Committee He has taken a measure for the new season with which he has broken with the provisions of decades. From now on, the referees will stop using their two last names and begin to be known by their name and first surname. Something with which they seek to “humanize” arbitration, as Francisco Soto, the new president of the Committee, pointed out in the training day in which they explained the novelties for the new course.

In the publication of the first designations for the first day of the League, it was observed how this measure was already in force, noting that Javier Alberola would be in charge of arbitrating the Girona-rayo Vallecano that opens the season in Spain. The usual formula of meeting the referees, for their two last names, established from Francoism, to avoid confusion between referee Franco Martínez and the dictator is left behind.

In this way, the Spanish referees will be known again by their name and their first last name, something that is common in Europe. A measure with which they want to bring arbitration closer to the fan. “We want to humanize and protect the arbitration figure,” said Soto, who expressed his conviction that Spain has “a very good arbitration level” and added that they will work “to reach the highest installments internationally.”

The intervention of video -bar (VAR) was another of the outstanding points of the novelty agenda, since, as the president of the CTA highlighted, “the VAR is entering many plays” and it is aspired to “only enter with clear and manifest errors.” Eduardo Prieto Iglesias, Responsible for the VAR male, he accentuated that from the CTA they want to return “to the origins” of this tool “as support of the collegiate and not as a substitute”, and pointed out that the arbitration designations will be “depending on the performance and state of the form of the colleges.”

There will be a unique group of 15 specialized referees in the VAR for First and Second Division, which will be called Var-pro, which will have a specialization and versatility for the homogenization of criteria.

He CTA also explained the new technical support for plays review that will be implemented in the League f and in First Federación, in which a repetition operator will be used that will provide the referee with the images of the plays requested by the coaches to review in a specific monitor and that will only be used for four incidents: goals, penalties, reds and identity errors.

On changes in regulations, Fernández Borbalán, Technical head, highlighted the new rule in the double touch on penalties, the retention of the balls of the goalkeepers and the involuntary touch of the ball by a coach, among many other controversial plays. «The referee will raise his hand when the goalkeeper holds the ball more than five seconds as notice and if he exceeds the eight he will grant a corner kick to the counterclap. If he is a repeat offender, to the third infraction he commits he will be shown yellow card, ”he said
