
One of the first actions of the Pope Leo XIV (Robert Francis Prevost) after his choice as a pontiff of the Holy See has been to call a great meeting with more than 1,100 'influencers', whom he calls “digital missionaries”, in order to raise awareness about the dangers of social networks and the spread of false news.
The creators of content who have attended the event, held this July 28 and 29, are known for being Catholic influencers and all of them are from up to 146 different countries. The Pope has asked all attendees to act as “communion agents” to counteract polarization, individualism, ego doctrine and the flow of 'fake news'.

The pontiff has advised all of them that his message has to be faithful, clear and true. In addition, he has urged them to disseminate three specific themes. The first, focus on Christ. He has asked to use the beauty and light of truth to overcome the logic of division and falsehood in the digital environment.
The second, spread Christian hope and encourage peace in social networksespecially in war contexts or in people who have lost a sense of life, spirituality and faith. And finally, Pope Leo XIV has urged these content creators to “Repair networks” and promote deep human relationships. According to him, we need networks based on love, solidarity and authentic friendship.
