The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has launched a message in favor of the “safe, regular and orderly” migration that in his opinion is contributing to the progress and “good economic situation” of Spain. In a statement without questions from Nuakchot (Mauritania) together with President Mohamed Cheij Ghazuani, he recalled that Spain was a country of emigrants who went to other parts of the world in search of opportunities while now immigration is contributing to the development of the national economy.
“Today the progress and the good economic situation of Spain owes much to the contribution of the migration that has come to develop in Spain its life project,” he said after several days of disturbances in the town of Torre Pacheco (Murcia) in which ultras groups have made appeal against the immigrant population with xenophobic and racist messages.
Sánchez has claimed the “collaboration” of migrant emitting countries such as Mauritania and has transferred “the firm will to continue deepening ties and extending them to many other areas”, affecting in particular in the desire shared with the African country to “raise the economic relationship to a higher level of ambition.” The chief of the Executive has also assured that the EU “includes the vital role that Mauritania plays in the region”, in reference to the Sahel, an area of special interest for the government and also for the 27, and has assured that “Spain will continue working” so that the relationship with the European block “responds satifactorily to Mauritanian's demands.”
For his part, the Mauritano President has branded the relations between the two countries as “excellent” and thanked Sánchez and Spain “the constant support” to his country both bilaterally and within the EU and in other international forums.
“We are very grateful for his defense of the fair causes and also of international security,” said Ghazuani, who has positively valued Spain's bet for the development of both Sahel and Africa.
