The Government announced Thursday that it will monitor and “closely” the hate speeches that are generated after the prohibition of Islamic celebrations in public spaces of the Murcian town of Jumilla. The only councilor of Vox in the Cabildo, Juan Agustín Navarro, took forward this proposal to prohibit the celebration of Ramadan and the Lace -up party in public spaces after an amendment of the Popular Party, which governs this municipality of 27,000 inhabitants. Now the Observatory against Racism and Xenophobia (Oberaxe), which depends on the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, will track the manifestations of hate that “can be derived or enhanced by these initiatives.”

It was confirmed by sources from the department of Elma Saiz, who ensure that initiatives such as the noudy on Wednesday in Jumilla “threaten the freedom and dignity of people”, as well as religious freedom and of armored cult in the Constitution. “We work for a society free of discrimination, racism and xenophobia,” they emphasize.

Vox presented his motion in defense of the traditions of the Spanish people in the plenary of July, with a list of points, including the prohibition of Islamic celebrations in public spaces. “What he did was present an amendment bleaching the motion,” explains the former mayor and socialist spokesman in Jumilla, Juana Guardiola.

The maneuver consisted of allowing the modification of the Sports Facilities Regulation “so that no activity outside the sport can be carried out, unless it is promoted by the City Council.” At another point “the promotion and promotion of Spanish religious traditions is supported,” says Guardiola. Specifically, it promotes “the cultural activities, campaigns and proposals that defend our identity and protect traditional religious values and manifestations in our country.” The amendment went ahead with the votes of the PP and the abstention of Vox.
