The US army paraded this Saturday in Washington DC to celebrate its 250th anniversary in what many saw as a rare public force exhibition in the country.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, who for a long time expresses his desire to organize an event of this type, was part of a parade where more than 6,000 soldiers, 150 vehicles and 50 planes that crossed the Pennsylvania Avenue, near the White House participated.
The parade took place in the context of a day of massive protests under the slogan “no Kings” (“not to the kings”), which were carried out in tens of cities and populations of the country, considered by many as the elders that have been seen since Trump returned to power.
The Washington DC parade has maintained a narrative in which the role of the US army is honored in important historical victories and, at the same time, coincided with the 79th birthday of the president.
But the one -day event, which according to the army could cost up to US $ 45 million, has received criticism from some who consider it a vanity project and a misuse of taxpayers' money.
The tensions of the day increased even more when it was known that a man had murdered a state legislator from Minnesota, in what Governor Tim Waltz said it had been an act “politically motivated.”
Advanced from the parade, Trump went up to the podium and took an oath of a group of 250 recruits who have just entered the army.
In his speech, he sent a warning to the “enemies.”
“His defeat will be sure. His fall will be total and complete.”
